Anonymous, 30 May 2022You can't be serious about oversharpening on Xperia wh... moreYes I'm serious. Have you seen them from an xperia? Its dialed down slightly but by no meaningful difference. And if you want to do tone mapping and multi exposures you can do that with any device. Blown exposure is not natural. Plus you can turn hdr off.
If I'm going to edit my photos I want the data to still be there and I can dial back sharpening if need be. Or ill use raw. Which Sony has zero advantage there either.

Anonymous, 25 May 2022I don't think heavy noise reduction, over sharpening, ... moreYou can't be serious about oversharpening on Xperia when Samsung, Apple and Pixel are right there in your face with high frequency oversharpening. Have you seen photos of a sand from S21/22 Ultra? It gives you headache as it tries to faux contour every sand particle there is. It's disgusting. Also there is nothing wrong with blown out highlights in the sky on a super bright noon, it's much more natural that way than Pixel trying to guess paint the blown out sky blue and it's pretty super tacky if there are branches in the image which then suffer from ghosting. Pure HDR puke a la 2003. I always wondered where HDR people of today were back in 2003 when exposure stacking and HDR tone mapping was a thing and trending in photography. Suddenly almost 20 years later you get bunch of people giving you lectures about HDR by confusing it with dynamic range.

Kara Murat, 27 May 2022I totally agree with you about the update, paid EUR 1400 sm... moreI don't know how you are still falling for the same stuff after all these years. iPhone or iPad that gets 5 year support will crawl to a halt by the time it gets its last update, it will be unusable pretty much. Same thing applies to Samsung because that's being going on for years now. I still vividly remember to this day when I unboxed brand new iPhone 7 used it for few hours and then updated it with x.x1 incremental update and it immediately slowed down noticeably.

The other major problem after Sony's update policy it's the problem of all android manufacturers it's the latest 8 gen 1 chip it's a big scam!! Problem with the battery because of the heating caused by the chip when it is requested, the iPhone is ahead of several generations!!!

Tom, 20 May 2022Here in Europe many countries get a pre order special with ... moreI totally agree with you about the update, paid EUR 1400 smartphone and get that 2-year update in 2022 is a shame and sabotage against itself when one considers the update policy Apple followed by Samsung and Google, this is really the big problem for Sony, if I buy Apple I would be safe for 5 years see Samsung 4-year update, here the choice is quickly made much buy iPhone 13 pro max or Samsung ultra 22

Tom, 25 May 2022You seem ill informed. Last year there has been some media ... moreI admit that the colors are excellent on the Xperia 1 III. Dynamic range, sensitivity, noise, flare, focus accuracy, and OIS leave much to be desired. Photos I've been happy with on my Xperia 1 III: home electrical panel before doing work, example of incorrectly installed heat pump to send to contractor, evidence of package delivery damage, and saving paint color codes from old paint bucket. Everything else has been a total mess. I have to bring a real camera if I want real photos.

Tom, 25 May 2022You seem ill informed. Last year there has been some media ... moreOh dear lord.
Their colors have always been pretty good. And colors are only one aspect. Their photos are still over processed jpegs that fall behind in hdr and exposure yet don't offer more natural images. Except colors.
There's nothing significantly brighter about the screen. It's a extreme lie. 30 nits is not 50%. The screen practically the same. Except maybe manual brightness got a boost.
Its an insane lie.
And everything else about it like sharpness... minutes 4k obviously and the colors is matched up by almost any high end phone now a days. Nice try though.
I get the feeling you are ill informed and only reading half of my stated facts.

Anonymous, 25 May 2022No. Their cameras and their phones are two different things... moreYou seem ill informed. Last year there has been some media coverage, also from gsmarena, about the sony alpha development team and their involvement in the development of the xperia camera system. The colour science behind the xperia 1 iii, xperia 5 iii, xperia pro-I and now the xperia 1 iv is adopted from sony’s camera department.
Just as I wrote before. Screen brightness is just one mosaic stone in the evaluation if a screen is god or not. Since the screen brightness got significantly increased, even the harshest reviews of the xperia iv acknowledged that it is now more than sufficient. Sunlight readability is a non-issue. Other important factors like sharpness, colour space, colour precision, are unrivalled.
I get the feeling you only read half of my statements and keep drumming your same old arguments, although they got weakend and invalidated.
Goodbye!

AlexP, 24 May 2022more natural photosI don't think heavy noise reduction, over sharpening, and blown/clipped highlights is natural.
But if you do then I guess that makes sense as to why we are even having this discussion.

Tom, 23 May 2022Well if you deactivate de AI on other phones you get a clum... moreNo. Their cameras and their phones are two different things. Their jpegs do not benefit from their dedicated camera counterparts. They are just over processed jpegs like everything else. Just nicer colors.
And oh wow...it has 4k. Others have 2.5 and 3k. Most won't notice the difference even of 2k.
What they will notice is that its literally half the brightness even though Sony has been working 4k acreens for like 6 years.
Or should we play the numbers matters games now so higher mp means better camera.
Its simply behind and over priced. Thats all there is to it.

Anonymous, 20 May 2022Galaxy, iPhone, and many many others get pre order specials... moreWell if you deactivate de AI on other phones you get a clumsy interface which by far does not offer the depth for making adjustments.
Sony’s jpg-processing evolved over the last years and in various blind tests done by media covering photography closed the gap to Nikon and Canon and even moved ahead in some areas. Most of the time Nikon got the third place, Sony and Canon on one and two or the other way around. This great jpg processing is a feature of this phone. Compared to other phones this one offers you the possibility to change some parameters if you want another outcome. Of course you can also use the raw’s and tweak the pictures to your liking e.g. with the lightroom-mobile app.
“Overall, an excellent job from Sony across all scenarios” -> that’s gsmarena’s conclusion after the battery test. So you writing about being behind regarding battery is just bias.
Also the display is not behind but ahead of the competition. Who else offers 4K and a precisely calibrated display with 99,9 % gamut coverage. It’s not only brightness (which btw is great now, sunlight is no problem anymore) but many other factors which make a great display. This phone is a 4K camera powerhouse and you can check your filming on a 4K display. Which other comparable mobile phone offers that? When you edit your pictures on the phone, the display gives you correct colours. The aspect ratio is great for social media consumption since you see more info due to the display length. I’m not into gaming but the gaming features and aspect ratio seem a to be a gr8 improvement over compared to others.
Btw… latest reviews show that after a recent software update the throttling issues are solved.
So this phone is priced at the same level as other flagship phones and is cheaper with the pre order promo. I don’t see a problem there. Only the shorter software support is a noteworthy con and something one has to evaluate when thinking about buying this phone.

AlexP, 22 May 2022That's right. Sony Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 1 III have m... moreMore natural colors not more natural photos.
You literally took one aspect of a whole number of issues. Acting as if that one thing was some saving grace to it all.
Then exaggerate and run on with it.... please try harder next time.
