Ai doesn't have to be on with other phones either.
Its nothing close to an alpha camera. Maybe the ui a little but its still an over processed jpeg thats behind in quality and exposure compared to others.

And features like 3.5m and sd are nice but don't justify the price. Especially when its behind in camera, display, battery, and other things by years compared to cheaper and older phones.

Here in Europe many countries get a pre order special with the WH-1000XM4 headphones which can easily be sold for 200-250 Euro. So the actual price is 1.150,- to 1.200,- Euro which is 150,- to 200,- Euro cheaper than the current market price of the S22 Ultra with 256 GB storage. So pricewise I see it as a competitive offering, especially because it offers flagship features others don’t e.g.: a dedicated camera button, headphone jack, expendable storage, notification LED, stereo front facing speakers, battery management options, 4K-display, etc.

Now a lot are arguing about the term “professional” when it comes to picture taking. I’d say the handling of taking pictures with the xperia seems to be the closest to the handling of a professional camera system. You don’t let the AI decide for the settings to take a picture, you decide. That’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. But for people with this “professional attitude” it is.

I for example have a sony alpha full frame camera and I like sonys approach. Why? Because I do not always carry the camera around with me. But my phone. With my current Samsung S20 often the AI does not take them the way I want, colours are way to punchy and far from reality, AF is often not precise.

I also know what kind of pictures I mostly take with a phone. It’s my family in all kinds of life situations. Therefore, a good wide angle lens, a good standard lens plus a good portrait range is important. That’s exactly what the experia offers. Especially the optical portrait range from 85-125mm is a great thing for that.

In addition, the best mobile phone AF-system is another big plus when you have fast moving kids and pets. If you once go eye-AF you don’t want to go back. Also the AF Tracking with 20 pictures/s is a great thing when you try to catch irretrievable memories (e.g. your kid mastering the balance bike for the first time).

This brings me to the next gr8 feature. 4K120 on all cameras. How great is that. My wife and me make a lot of short clips when our kids are playing or something special happens. To catch these situations in 4K with eye-AF or 4K120 (slowmotion) is a unique feature of the xperia.

I could go on and on…

The only real negative thing about the xperia to me is the short update cycle, which is a big deal considering the price. I think sony could get a lot more buyers If they’d offer the same update promise like Samsung or Google.

The phone is good, but we need more than that. We know that the company can do that. It is the mother of inventions. Why not integrate games? When it stopped the psp and psvita, it had to integrate them into the phone to be unique. As for the specialization in photography, I think it will not help because the iPhone and many devices offer the best and Its price is expensive and useless, and the device has been in shape for years. We see the same shape. I think it's time for change and independence because it is a big company

It gives you the feeling of the Alpha series although it will never match Alpha in image quality and actual professionals obviously won't use it.

I really love the 1iii, my only complaint is it does not get bright enough outdoors sometimes. But the price of the iv just isn't that big of a leap

Anonymous, 19 May 2022This phone isn't for normal users it's for profes... moreThere's nothing professional about it. Its not for photographers. The phones offers nothing quality or special wise over other flagships. Its photos are not natural except colors. The pictures are still over processed jpegs. Just slightly less sharpened. And also more blown exposure.
And if you are going to edit raw files than Sony offers nothing at all over other phones in quality to do that with.
So no. Its not for photographers or professionals. Thats an excuse Sony fans use to try and justify the excessively unreasonable prices and being behind in speakers, battery, camera, etc.

So being more affordable and better in most key aspects and still on par in camera makes those phones only for scrolling on Facebook?
But Sony being behind and more over priced is for professionals?
                                Riiiight.

Bajlozi 3D, 17 May 2022This guy on youtube told it can do ois+eis only on 4k 30P..... moreIf you want to shoot with all the features you are "limited" to 4K@30fps HDR (HLG) without frame stacking (so called wide dynamic range that shoots 120fps and stacks it three times). I think that is the way to shoot anyway, going above 30fps is really not needed and you introduce a lot compromise not only by loosing features but by sacking frame image quality cause it can't gather enough light in the first place. The only reason why would you shoot high frame rate is to compensate for lack of ND filter. If environment is so hot that it blows out all over the place then you should try 60fps and if that's not enough then go for 120fps. Sony knew that people were using this hack in Cinema Pro so that's why they introduced that WDR feature for video. Anyway Cinema Pro is close to EOL.
