Nick Tegrataker, 14 Oct 2022No image sensor that uses a CFA cannot capture "truth&... moreMy first impression with the Pixel 7 Pro is that there are barely Quad Bayer artifacts in the 2x zoom mode (and no Quad Bayer artifacts in the 10x mode). And Google doesn't seem to use machine learning for the demosaicing.
I am not talking about demosaicing, which only affects small details and isn't the cause of Apple's 49 megapixel low light artifacts. Nonetheless, machine learning demosaicing is biased, so you can't say how much it really uses adjacent pixels. It may also learn that it should ignore certain adjacent pixels in certain cases.
And by the way, Apple's machine learning artifacts are in the "raw" file. That's really unacceptable. Traditional Bayer raw files provide measuring data for the red pixels, measuring data for the blue pixels and measuring data for the green pixels. Apple's 49 megapixel raw files have partly nothing to do with measuring data. Truth means that you don't manipulate measuring data in my opinion.

Just got mine today compared to my wife's 14 pro the camera is way ahead better but video still behind 14 pro in my opinion. It's really an upgrade over my iPhone 13 pro max. 9/10 for it's camera, almost perfect! Go get it guys

It kills me why Google doesn't make its phones available worldwide.
If one can buy from abroad, it won't work on local UAE networks.
So sad for such a fine phone.

I can confirm again that using Night Sight for daylight 2x or 15x photos can improve the results. The daylight Night Sight 15x photos really impress me!

Any sentence ... moreThose guys who are downvoting you are only some small apple fanboys that try to defend a company that doesn’t care about them. The only better thing on the iPhone is the better chip, so they always sh-t on other company’s phones because of some geekbench scores.
You guys just need to compare the pixel 7 pro and iPhone 14. same price, but the 7 pro is way better in almost every compartment of the phone like the cameras, the display and much more.

My advice: Use the focus lock feature. The macro autofocus (main camera and ultra wide angle) of the 7 Pro is terrible, but you can simply lock the focus when you get close and then you just adjust the distance until it's sharp. This was also my method with the Google Nexus 5x, which also had an unusable macro autofocus. But I noticed that 2x zoom macro photos with the main camera can be better than ultra wide angle macro photos. Though there is a bug that macro main camera photos are occasionally not saved when you use 2x zoom and the flashlight.

By the way, my first impression is that 15x is the best zoom setting for distant objects. Less artificial than the terrible 20x photos of the 6 Pro I took last year. 15x can really give you slightly more detail than 5x in certain light conditions. Combining Night Sight with 10x zoom can sometimes help, too, though my first impression is that Night Sight is disappointing, sometimes there seems to be a misalignment of the frames
(main camera) in extreme low light conditions, I didn't notice this with previous versions of Night Sight.

I don't know why the official zoom sample images from Google are so bad. My first impression with the 7 Pro is that the zoom images are much better than what Google has shown in the Golden Gate bridge images.
But they really need to fix the bug that 2x zoom photos with flashlight are sometimes not saved. And the raw files haven't been calibrated yet, very desaturated.

My Mi 11 Ultra just kills both the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro in terms of pure photography... These samples are far from impressive... Mid-range quality at best... I'm seriously beginning to wonder whther GSMarena merely praises Google's photograpic prowess because its an American company...?! To make matters worse even video is average at best.

I love Pixels, but the premium price of non-A devices is really hard for me to understand - this said, I'm very happy we get *a variants 6 months later with all the essentials that matter, I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for the 7a to replace my 4a with.

Reviewers give free pass, because google logo.
Htc was trashed for soing exactly same. U11 camera was copy of pixel 1.
Even the results.
