No. It all depends what do you expect from the phone. And e.g. I don't have even a single game on my phone from like 4 years. Because I just don't like gaming on my mobile. So for me, gaming performance is the very last thing that I would care about. Photos, on the other side, are one of the most important thing for me.

I will not buy this pixel 7 ! Only because of the use of the Tensor processor and it's Samsung modem ! I better stick with the use of Qualcomm Snapdragon processor ! They are the best ! Even Apple is using it since the iPhone 12 !!!

Having a great camera doesn't make it a great phone. I know that Pixel lovers are not able to face the reality, but that doesn't change it.
No matter how hard Google tries, it's a fail again.

I don't agree with the use of Tensor g2 processor especially the Samsung modem ! I like to see how it will perform ! I do not understand what Google is doing using ,Samsung processor ! Do you know that Apple is now using Qualcomm processor since iPhone 12 because of the Modem ! !!

Gsmarena please bring your battery tests A.S.A.P. That's what we really want to know as most other reviews don't perform battery tests in any objective manner

99% people do not care and it is not a widely perceived problem that you are trying to make it out to be.

                    Longer answer;

I will just talk from my own experience. I own a6400 and pair it with a few Sigma and Tamron lenses for both action and still photography. I do not get paid for my work as I take photos and give them to people that need them as a casual volunteer work, but I always try my best to create the highest quality possible results.

My workflow is straightforward. I do not know what ai Nick is talking about, but I myself use Photolab 5 all the time, though recently upgraded it to the version 6. I move hundreds of photos I have taken to the hard drive, run the Deepprime noise reduction on every single one of them, and import the dng files that have been exported from Photolab into Adobe Lightroom. Usually these import and export processea take around 6-12 hours depending on the number of pictures.

I use Deepprime because of its effective denoising capability. Depending on which lens I use and how fast the subjects are moving, my camera can crank up the iso up to 32000, and neither Capture One or Lightroom does a great job at getting rid of noise at this point. I would be lying if I said I do not see any weird spots in ai denoised dng files, but I would rather have barely seeable artifacts in my photos than seeing ugly amount of noise. Are there details that might not exist at a pixel level? Maybe but maybe not, and I do not care and neither do my clients. But some of them were quick to find out when there were noises on people's faces, and that is why I use Photolab.

If you consider yourself a technical person rather than an artist and take photos purely for your self satisfaction, then I think being nitpicky might be a good thing for you. But I am producing my work for other people as well, which means the results from supposedly more natural yet less intelligent noise reduction of Lightroom or Capture One are not appreciated. I am not constantly afraid of whether the tiniest details look dead accurate to what exists in real life, I have something more important to think about when shooting or editing photos.

If I ever had a sensitive someone like you as my client and they specifically told me not to use ai in my workflow, I would skip the Photolab part and give them noisy photos instead. But otherwise I will keep using it because that is what has been making everyone I met happier. Ai is not flawless but in my experience the pros vastly overweigh the cons in most scenarios. Here's my two cents sir.

It's the best season to do the camera testing in Thane-Mulund. 😍😄

You guys should have mentioned which phone the samples were taken. Even though it should be identical between 7 and 7 pro, it seems that only vanilla 7 is using the non binned mode to produce 2x shots.

Also, can it produce 50mp dng files?

"It's not an exciting launch for sure, ... But it doesn't need to. What it needs to be is a good set of phones"

I disagree with this statement. The next generation of any phone, should be considerably better. The Tensor 2 is not as fast as it should be and charging is still slow. The display should be 1500 nits. The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are similar to the iPhone 14 Pro series in terms of falling short of expectations. Bottom line, I feel you should definitely compare them to the 6 and 6 Pro. That gives them context as they are the next Gen Pixels.

that 800K antutu score is really weak.. SD 8 Gen 2 will get 1.1 million soon.

Very strange camera results. I have just looked at the Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 7 full resolution camera sample images from a different review ( nextpit) and there the camera uses a crop from the 50 megapixel mode indeed and the 2x images look very different to gsmarena's images. Maybe the light conditions were better? Very strange. Maybe some reviewers have different camera app versions? Maybe a bug?

Nick Tegrataker, 13 Oct 2022All demosaicing algorithms need to "guess" the co... moreAs I said: The problem is that machine learning makes the artifacts inconspicuous. Artifacts like moiré can be identified. But it's a huge issue when you are not aware that there are big artifacts in the image. If I see moiré, I know that this hasn't captured the truth. But I can't say the same about machine learning artifacts because they try to be inconspicuous.

Furthermore, demosaicing uses data from adjacent pixels. But machine learning relies on photos that are from a different object and photos that have been captured at a different time and at a different place.

Anonymous, 12 Oct 2022"and wouldn't be noticeable in real life." ... moreAll demosaicing algorithms need to "guess" the colours of all pixels based on partial R/G/B information hence producing false patterns or colours - none of them can be completely artifact-free due to how they work. Neither are ML/AI noise reductions flawless in this regard, and on several occasions they do "find" false patterns out of pure noise in extremely noisy images, but they tend to be significantly better at dealing with moires and false colours, which are clearly "not true" to what we see with our own eyes.

So the questions to be asked here are: Does having some "fake" details really matter when you would otherwise get utterly unusable photos lacking colours and overrun by noise, or those that suffer from moires and other artifacts that non-ML algorithms tend to produce? Considering the context being discussed (iPhone's 48MP), I think the trade-off is totally worth it.
