Xiaomi pointed this out when they launched the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 13 phones during their launch event. They claimed the cost is significantly higher for the smaller phones. The design is more complicated than for larger phones and specialist production lines have to be set up for some of the components which according to Xiaomi at least increases manufacturing costs.

Same phone would score easily 104h with 8g2.

Google uses exynos because it is cheap. Tensynos 2 was $40.
Bizarre that companies that bets so much on A.I uses chip much weaker, when A.I would benefit from stronger chip.

Nowhere near the competition except the ridiculous price. Yet it gets such a generous rating. The processing power being twice as bad as the competition might not look like much today, but in a couple of years, it will.

The only real reason why I upgraded from the Pixel 6 Pro was the battery life, otherwise even with Tensor, it was still a very fast and pleasurable user experience. I feel that geekbench scores etc have less and less relevence, and we're now expecting more efficient power management. Sadly Tensor doesn't seem to have it. For general user experience in day to day tasks, these phones still excel though, and Google are commited to that with their own OS.

Some do better than others right off the bat, but it's really comparing apples and oranges. Not to mention in real use, the values differ so massively, looking at opinions and reviews is effectively useless right now. Some people claim 2 to 3h of SOT, others get 9h. Some have their battery drain as fast as they can count seconds. It's so all over the place. Been playing around with my P8P for a few days now, haven't done full on proper daily use testing yet (still moving everything over), but thus far it seems perfectly fine in terms of battery life, heat etc. The only thing I noticed is that Genshin Impact doesn't feel quite as smooth as it should (some stutters, though overall perfectly playable at 60 FPS/medium), but that again seems to be a software issue that will be patched in due time. People need to get their head out of their ass, just use the thing and see if they're having a good time with it. What use is a slightly cheaper and, on paper, higher spec phone when it still feels worse to actually use? I can break my head over what's the best value for the money all day long, but if I only look at raw numbers, I'll never actually get an answer. Both haters and fans of X phone will always need to find a reason to justify whatever they have already bought.
