Samsung S8000 Jet review: Airborne

Went to the store to buy the Jet. Couldn't play around with the phone much, but the display was simply stunning, with lively, saturated, and vivid colors, and I hand it to Samsung for making such a gorgeous display. The screen was very responsive, though I did have problems browsing the menu, where, while swiping to go to the next page, I kept selecting an item on the current page. Plus, photo browsing did turn out to be a bit sluggish. The landscape QWERTY, however, was really good to type with, and I liked it, as much as I liked the interface. I couldn't test the phone much more, though, as my "evaluation period" was over, but despite the few niggles here and there, I was hooked on to the phone and was dead serious about buying it. However, then came the big shock - the price - and the exorbitant VAT left the phone out of my reach. It was either saving for a few months more, or buying my second preference, the Nokia E71. So, having been stuck with my K800i for a little over two years, and desperate to get my hands on something new, I went for the latter.
Well, I certainly don't regret the decision, but I could've done with the brilliant, large AMOLED display and the "top-notch" DivX/XviD support. I would've got the hang of browsing the menu, too, in a matter of time, and the slight delay when moving through images wasn't something I found to be intolerable. Yes, the phone its flaws, albeit a few, but its pluses outweigh its minuses, and, if you can get over that, this would be, without doubt, a very good buy. It's not an iPhone, mind you; it even sells cheaper.

I have never seen a more bias review in my life!
Samsung S8000 is SLOW!!!!!
Poorly designed software wise.
It is an embarrassment to Samsung!!!!!
I like Omnmia HD! Probably the best model on the market!

SANDY, 14 Aug 2009i am looking for a great touchscreen phone with great displ... moreWell, if you can dish out a bit more, I'd suggest you wait for the i7500 Galaxy. It may look average, but it's got an AMOLED screen, runs on Google Android, and is fast, fluid, and responsive, thanks to Google's OS. It's got a 5-mpx camera, too. The one letdown it has to the Jet is it doesn't have DivX/Xvid support. Other than that, it's a smartphone platform, and there are tons of applications you can download and install, not to mention themes.

Anonymous, 06 Aug 2009“Is the Samsung Jet smarter than smartphone?” – the answer ... moreThia phone has a Microsoft Exchange Support and Samsung already has a app shop (if you get what I mean),so it seems to be an option apart from the smartphones!

“Is the Samsung Jet smarter than smartphone?” – the answer is “NO”. The snappy processor and multitasking functionality are not enough to make someone who´s used to smartphones switch over to a feature phone. The major problem is the lack of additional applications and interconnection among the different software elements.

Ernet, 31 Jul 2009What is the truth of Samsung S8000 JET's TouchWiz origin ( ... moreWhat is the truth of Samsung S8000 JET's TouchWiz origin ( kind of TouchWiz ).In the previous post ( almost the same )I made a mistake- there is corrected sentence " The reviewer clearly wrote that it is resistive one ". .MOREOVER I just received email from Samsung Support Uk where is stated
"Dear Ernet Lew
Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics.
In response to your query about the s8000, this handset has a capacative
touch screen ".
So again what is the truth ?!

What is the truth of Samsung S8000 JET's TouchWiz origin ( kind of TouchWiz ). The reviewer clearly wrote that it is capacitive one. There is quotation from this review ( 2nd page ,in the middle of this page ): " It reacts to even the slightest touch just as a capacitive screen does... " and I believe in that. However some others reviewers claim that it has " new R-Resistive technology " ( i.e. mobile-review.com ).As we all known capacitive touchscreen are much better that Resistive ones I do appreciate to somebody confirm that.
