Sony Ericsson Satio vs. Samsung Pixon12: 12MP shootout

21 October 2009
A year's truce must've been enough and some heavyweight sharpshooters are called to arms again. In fact, there's never been a ceasefire in the battle for profit. But we're about to look at the future of cameraphones and the battle to take place is more for glory than anything else.

You kept saying about how Samsung phones gets faded in just a short period of time...have you seen what happens to SE keypad after few months? Do you have the guts to admit it? This is about camera, so stick to that. Changing topic is a sign of avoiding embarrassment.

Talking about camera, why you think Samsung is at present world's third largest compact camera maker? If they are not even competitive then why people buy them? Can you name any Company that truly make their won stuff and don't adapt from others? Tell me how Sony Bravia is "different". Sony just added few features and put a logo on top of a Samsung LCD panel. Get the story?

The review article shares my concern on acutal lens protection, please read again: "The Pixon12 has a piece a glass on top of its lens cover, and its proneness to scratches is a major drawback."

Besides likely scratches your Pixon will have smudges all over the glass after a few weeks, and that will affect picture quality.

Satio has mechanical cover where as Pixon has automatic lens cover.

And by the way BOTH have "a piece of protective glass" over its lens. But on Satio its BEHIND the mechanical cover and On Pixon12 as GSMarena mentioned its ON TOP of the automatic lens cover, which I couldn't identify from the pics so far.

12 Megapixel camera without lens protection? If there was photo shoot-out after a month of carrying both phones in a pocket or handbag like every normal mobile phone, then we all know Satio will be winner by a mile. The choice here is no-brainer if you really think to buy one for actual use.

We have to consider that the satio is still very new and can still have firmware updates that can improve camera performance but for now the pixon is slightly better. Not really that much of a difference. Hardware wise i think the protecting slide cover is really important. But the ability to change the proper settings for taking pictures is good. As a whole satio is definitley much much better being a smartphone with such a powerful processor that is capable of doing a lot and all that stuff.

Considering the difference in focal length is enough to distort or change visual impression, with both camera phones it is really in the hand of the user to produce stunning pictures. We can try to spot winner under such laboratory conditions, but in real life this does not matter any more.

Personally I think lens cover is primary decision point to use such a high end camera in real life, therefore sorry Pixon, my winner is Satio.

cameraphone : pixon (best in current market)
overall : satio (just between these 2 phones)

i think satio and pixon12 only can compare 12MP camera, because different price and different OS.

if sony fans want compare a symbian with a normal phone, u can compare innov8 with c905, then innov8 will beat c905 in both performance and camera part.

                                    thx for gsmarena

All high end Samsung phones record video with AMR-NB audio codec. I can't understand that. Voices are so screaky.
