HTC Desire HD review: Most wanted

11 November 2010
Proceed with caution, big Snapdroids ahead. We guess that sign is due wherever someone mentions Desire HD. It’s big and bad and it takes no prisoners. HTC certainly took their time with releasing a badass Android handset on our side of the pond but ...

i have owned this phone since nov.
i am truly impressed with its ui and responsiveness.
i was a nokia user before and will definitely NOT look back anymore.
For me its either iphone or the HTC...
I truly love its huge screen (and the fact that my old nokia chargers can actually fit my Htc Desire HD)
My only only only only gripe is the pathetic battery power.
Im surprised this review didnt mention it in the disadvantages list.
I mean cmon...almost every owner in the comments has mentioned it.

I am not a fan of any brand and i own both phones htc desire hd and Iphone 4 To be honest i gotta say Iphone 4 really beats desire hd. Although i prefer android os to apple os but these features about iphone4 really rocks 1. Performance and speed 2. camera especially when it comes to video recording The video is so smooth comparing desire hd 3.better touch sensivity in iphone and better screen quality also . Anyway desire hd isnot a bad cellphone but to my opinion iphone 4 is better and more stylish
Thnx dudes 4 reading my comment

You are so harsh on this review!

you didnt even talk about the performance. WTF? Samsung galaxy s performance (out of the box) sucks and the SAMOLED give over saturated colours....superior? okay....

Headset is refer to the headset come with Desire HD or ur own?
Base on gsmarena review, it's in reverse... I'm a bit surprise to the test result, and suspect gsmarena get a bad copy.

I just would like to know, anyway I'll go test it at shop (not sure have chance to test o not... ).

Carlos, 12 Dec 2010Excellent Phone. I agree with the comments on speaker and b... morehi Carlos, mind to do a test by plug in headset? how was the sound quality? If base on gsmarena review, Desire HD will perform badly when plug in headset.

If look at the sample photo from gsmarena review, ya the camera result tend to over-sharpen the photo. Anyway, I hvn't make up my mind to get Desire HD or wait for Samsung Google Nexus S.

Bought one recently from S'pore. Excellent phone with great features and performance. Its UI is very fluid as compared to other Androids available in market. Froyo is even better optimized. Battery is a bit of dissappointment but not that I hate it. Phone sounds good and gives a good feel when you hold it. Overall I am very happy with everything this phone has.

Excellent Phone. I agree with the comments on speaker and battery kinda not the best. Sounds great when I run it thru my cars audio though.
Just note i have noticed something with the camera if you take pics with the default settings at 0 0 0 0. THe images come out over sharpened and look ewwww on close up. However if you set the sharpness to -2 and leave the others at 0 0 0 it comes out with a major difference correct me if I am wrong should anyone try this.

Battery life is fine, you just have to charge it a few times before you get a good battery life. First ocuple of charges you are thinking - oh my, but by the 5th or 6th charge mine is lasting much longer with everything turned on, wifi, bluetooth, gps etc, using it all day no problem. All i did was turn the brightness down a bit and all is well. this is the best phone on the market imho (after 3 weeks of owning one).

Nice review. Though I think you were a little harsh on the phone. I have it and it's a great phone. Only two complaints: battery life and speaker quality (sounds amazing with headset though). I can use it the entire work day with medium to heavy use but I have to recharge it every night.
The screen is wonderful despite being LCD. You won't notice the difference between S-AMOLED and this unless you look at them side by side.
Size is XL but well worth it and it doesn't feel fat. It feels great in the hand. I have small hands but can still operate it with one hand without problems.
Battery cover is really hard to put back though but luckily it's something you only open once or twice a lifetime anyway.
Camera is not on par with camera phones, but this never was a camera phone to begin with. Definitely good enough for simple point and shoot situations.
Fast responsive UI, great build quality and nice features make it the best phone I've ever had. The only phone that has a chance against this beast is the Samsung Galaxy S, but TouchWiz is nowhere near Sense UI so to me Desire HD is at the present the ultimate gadget.

Any tried to take a portrait photo with flash. An all my tries the motive blinks because of the bright red eye reduction flash and the pictures are taken with the eyes closed = bad picture. It is almoust 100% hit on this behavior on kids and grownups. Really anoying.

But, I am looking for workarrounds and the phone is a really fun gadget. It just works and delivers all the fun you throw at it. Mabe some flowers to my wife is in place after av week of phonefun....

I have had this phone now for 3 weeks. so tested to the max love the speed of the internet on this phone, becuse i use it alot for verious thing like net, games, music i find i have to take my batery lead with me so it keeps charge. My only concern should have a bigger battery life. but saying this Screen Very Good for movies and vids youtube stream fantastic ect. camera very good for pics and recording vids. this is my first htc phone so the ease of use was very easy to addapt to the operating system.should have come with a paper manual thoe ? overhaul this is the best phone on the market place today and for a while i think.
