Motorola Atrix 4G review: Enter the Atrix

15 April 2011
It was the alliance with Android that put Motorola out of the woods. Like every partnership, it’s been a series of peaks and dips but every now and then the relationship between Motorola and Android goes beyond a mere marriage of...

Potential buyers should know that the Atrix has really bad call quality problems on many units (see official forum). Motorola are trying to keep this quiet just as they did with the Defy earpiece problem.
Their quality control is terrible and their customer service worse.
    Oh, and Motoblur is useless.

nice phone but as for it runnig android an already fast os' a more powerful CPU would not make a big improvement, maybe only for video processing.

People how think about buying a S^3 phone are not the same people that think about buying a dual-core phone. They are not aimed for the same market so a comparassion between them is stupid.

After reading the Atrix review...its really just the Sensation vs SGS2.

This review is biased. Gsmarena should have compared the Atrix to the Nokia N8 or E7. I can point out a dozen things that my N8 can do that the Atrix couldn't. Android phones are not the only good phones around the best ones are on S^3.

If you wonder why the close-up shot of the LCD on the Atrix looks rather similar than that of the SGS, it is because the Atrix's qHD screen uses the PenTile matrix scheme.

I owned the phone for a month and had to exchange TWICE -- meaning 3 phones total, but still had to return it in the end due to its poor, poor quality. Very disappointed to say the least.

                          Here's a quick review:

                          Pros
                          - Powerful CPU
                          - abundant RAM
                          - Cheap

                          Cons
                          - Poor quality (from THREE phones): phone freeze, buzzing in earphone when volume is over 50%, screen goes crazy even when im not touching it.
                          - Looks plastic/cheap/poorly built
                          - Mediocre screen, no FM radio
                          - Poor camera. Everything looks bluish and overall low image quality.

                          Verdict:

When the hell is Samsung going to release the Galaxy S2!?

I love the final page. Look at what that looks like these days and compare with 322-3 years ago. HTC Sensation, Galaxy S II, LG 2X.. its a great time to be a smartphone enthusiastic :)

Well, seams that Motorola ATRIX is really not bad device, but basically there is two things I don't like:
                              1) Poor quality camera.
                              2) I don't like this fingerprint scanner.

P.S. I think that "Laptop Dock" is pretty useless thing. Let's think... if I can take this "Laptop Dock" with me, then I should be able to take laptop too. Then why should I take this "Laptop Dock" if laptop is much more powerful and useful than this "Laptop Dock" it is just a screen with a keyboard. Also it is preatty not cheap. (Of course all this is only mine opinion.)

"Now aside from Android 3.0 Gingerbread no other version so far has real support for dual-core processors. So the OS really doesn’t squeeze the maximum potential of these smartphones. Plus the Galaxy S II is the only contender here, using the latest Android 2.3.1 Gingerbread, the Atrix 4G and Optimus 2X are still stuck on version 2.2.1 Froyo."

Why does everyone keep insisting that you need Gingerbread or higher for the dual-core support? Froyo does that too, when Android is properly compiled. And they are, on today's dual-core devices.

Motoblur feels so laggy, it's unbelieavable that you are playing with a dual-core phone. The gallery performance is simply pathetic. I think that Motorola should use Android standard UI if they can't do a decent one.

The phone is just missing somethings, some issues to fix.

Really nice phone... I'd like to make it mine.
