had this phone for a few weeks now. It has great reception, voice volume and clarity. Find the gallery application to be quite annoying. won't let me rotate pictures to fill the screen ==>. I have a huge issue with the log. There doesn't seem to be any way to save numbers not in address book. have to write them down and re-enter. does anybody know how to save calls to address book? thanks in advance

i buyed asha 311.overall performance is good;but in this price range more facilities could be given.
advantages
1)good capacitive touchscreen.
2)1 ghz cpu.
3)support avi format;which generally not available in this range.
4)good audio quality.
Disadvantages
1)poor screen resolution.
2)no push mail;no multitasking.
3)avg. battery backup.
4)not support pdf files.

Mark Aurel,Sir,your comments are very informative and of high quality.
I bought one 311 and I must say that the experience is far superior than laggy androids in the same price range.
Only problem I have is that it does not open email attachments, no internal document reader, and seems not to support external word/pdf document readers.
Another problem is that long emails seem to be cut short abruptly,with the result that they are incomplete.
Can you suggest a solution please? Thanks.

This... moreIt will be a dreadful day when i can't buy a feature phone that just make calls and have few features, i hope that at least Nokia keep making these phones, but they need to focus, the make too many same phones with almost no diffrence what so ever.

To the author: please write out what display resolution WQVGA corresponds to, taht is 400x240. There are just too many display resolution acronyms out there, nowadays.

Yeah, keep making this crappy phones for penny savers. This doesn't make or keep Nokia as a great technology/phone company.
two to five years and no one will be buying any of these.

I'm pretty surprised by GSMarena's comments about on-screen keypad in Asha 311. Though there are no boundaries to distinguish the buttons / characters, it's quiet comfortable to type in the messages / text etc... With the options like word prediction & word completion, typing in 311 is quiet easy, comfortable & smooth.

what wow, 14 Sep 2012100 euros ? lol . i can get a used xperia arc, xperia mini,... moreOh Kid! There's too much difference between a old and a new phone. I don't know from where gsmarena purchased it but, here it sells for around $112 and it is definitely way better than those entry level droids which start lagging every few hours after restart.

For example the original iPhone didn't fulfill almost any criteria usually given for a smartphone, but most people still considered it to be one. The current definitions are mostly arbitrary and based on historical inertia. The common view is that iOS, Android, Symbian, Blackberry (BBOS) and Windows Phone are smartphone OSes, but in reality it is almost impossible to find any common denominator for those that would clearly separate them from the more advanced feature phone platforms such as Nokia Series 40. A multitasking UI is almost the only one, but it is still notable that iOS and WP do not support PC style true multitasking where all apps regardless of origin would actually run in the background, and on the other hand many feature phones have some limited multitasking.

Okay, let's get this straight once more for the benefit of readers and the author of this article:
Nokia OS: the Operating System behind Nokia Series 40 and Series 30 phones. Has absolutely nothing to do with Symbian.
Symbian: the OS behind S60, S80 (historical), S90 (ditto), Symbian^3, Symbian Anna and Nokia Belle. Has nothing to do with Nokia OS or Series 40.
In other words Series 30, 40, 80, 90, Anna and Belle are just names of User Interfaces and developer platforms (except S30 which doesn't support third party apps). The feature phone platforms Series 30 and 40 are based on the Nokia OS and the smartphone platforms on Symbian.

Or rather the multitasking is limited to certain functions like music player. The underlying Nokia OS of Series 40 is also extremely lightweight and makes even Symbian (which has nothing to do with Nokia OS, by the way; the writer of the review is confused) look like a memory hog. 128 MiB is actually a lot for a Series 40 phone (some have as little as 16 MiB) and you will probably newer run out of memory.
