And if you have a large music or video collection, why wouldn't you have it backed it up or make sure you have it somewhere else (apart from their phone)? Just seems we're going 'round in circles... 😄

Anonymous, 13 Apr 2023It's ancient. Waste of space. Sim card > SD card. If your phone is stuck in a boot loop or bricked by an update, all of a sudden, MicroSD becomes the best possible use of physical space.

A music collection and vacation photographs are not sensitive, but large in size, so they belong to MicroSD.

Valid point though obviously. It also depends on the USB speeds that the SD card reader on the phone supports, because there are SD cards (UHS-III spec) that can reach up to 624MB/s read speeds. However these cards are very expensive.

Most SD card "slots" are located on the SIM card tray, and if there is no SD card tray, then the tray will be used for a 2nd SIM. So your argument that an SD card takes up space inside a phone is completely misguided.

Try coming up with an argument that isn't full of holes next time.

Most SD card slots are located on the SIM card tray, and if there isn't room for an SD card, then it will be used for a 2nd SIM. So your idea that an SD card takes up space inside a phone is completely misguided. As if such a small card would anyway, lol.

That pretty much seems to be the main benefit of a micro SD card. Sure, they can be handy - but at the end of the day, there's a reason why the top two phone brands stopped including them in their flagship models - they're simply not needed and the space/internal working can go to other things.

HT, 13 Apr 2023Never did I have a MicroSD card fail. However, I can not sa... moreHmm... I don't understand why you would insist that internal memory is more vulnerable than an SD card in terms of data integrity. But if you feel that way, you should just buy a new phone lol.

Technically, internal memory should always be more secure, because OS security policies are enforced in the internal memory partition. OS cannot enforce those policies on the ext card partition. Similarly, I wouldn't want to keep sensitive data on removable storage, then loose it somewhere. Remember, a phone cannot exist without internal memory.

Just use Google services to backup your data, depending on your internet speeds can be instantaneous. Recover anywhere. Android is Google anyways.

Indeed, only cloud storage or a home backup are helpful against theft. However, only the phone's internal storage and MicroSD can be written to in real-time, and out of the two, the former has more vulnerabilities.

HT, 12 Apr 2023You really enjoy losing your data, don't you?I've been using cell phones since 1994. The only time I have ever lost data on a cell phone, was from a micro SD. I have never lost any data from the internal storage on a cell phone.

I've also never had a broken phone or cracked screen. But I did have a phone stolen once. If that were to happen now, a lot of good an SD card would do when the phone is stolen. But all my data is also in the cloud. So I would still have access to it.

Data recovery software on a computer is ineffective on internal storage.

Good this phone does not have micro SD card slot in the 2020s, because micro SD card slots are useless which takes up additional space on motherboard. Just buy a USB type-C SD card reader, if you want to relive nostalgia of the good old days.

Kris17, 12 Apr 2023UFS4.0 memory is WAY faster than any SD card card out there... moreMicroSD is still fast enough for 8K video and can be ejected when your phone breaks.

This benefit is undeniable, even if the internal storage UFS was a thousand times faster.

When your phone breaks, you will wish you had your data on "dated" technology that you can eject and read externally.

HT, 12 Apr 2023MicroSD is abundantly fast enough for 8K video, much faster... moreUFS4.0 memory is WAY faster than any SD card card out there. There is heavy bottleneck on SD card when you transfer 8K videos through USB Type C. It would be a waste of these high-speed technologies because of your old SD card. Besides, most people have dead SD cards stuck in their phones due to data corruption while incorrectly formatting it. We don't have worry about those issues anymore.

SD card is considered a dated technology. UFS is more expensive of course, but with good reason. This is a flagship device. If you want SD card functionality, opt for a mid-range device. They don't go well together anymore.
