Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970What is wrong with you? They had problems with in begining, but itwar released 9 months after announcment. And as far as ROM goes ALL! except for release ROM 1.0 are flaless, battery good, thing like that. Even more you can get with custom ROM's at XDA developers.

So why many people are complaining? Well thing is people don't realy know how to upgarde firmware, shame on them, they sell than 1 month useb mobile phone very cheat to likes of me and buy a normal phone, not smarthphone.
                  For example iPhone...

It took me a week to 'adapt' to this phone (Had P990 before)
I very rarely use the stylus. I use the following steps for dialing.

                    1. Press Phone button to open the Phone app.
                    2. Tap the name directly with the thumb on the screen keypad. It will search all contacts based on all combinations (Letters and numbers) You can type any part of the contact. ( Do not tap the 3 key 3 times to get F (one press on the 3 key will search for contacts with 3 and D and E and F.) If the contact is not directly visible press the DOWN on the joystick untill you reach the contact. Press Phone button to dial. I think this is the fastest option.

If you want to see more contacts tap the 'Hide keyboard' option with your thumb.

                    Other speed options.
                    A. Redial a recent number.
                    1. Tap the "phone and arrow" to open the call list.
                    2. Tap the entry to redial and press the Phone button.

If the contact list is open with e.mail, phone etc the Phone button will dial the first number even if the e-mail address is highlighted.

                    Reply on SMS
The phone will be in 'auto reply mode' if a message is displayed. Flip the keyboard out and start typing. tap 'send' with thumb.

                    New SMS
This one require a few more steps (I did not searc for faster options as I rarely send SMSes.
                    1. Open keyboard
                    2. Tap Message button on screen
                    3. Tap SMS bar to open the list of conversations.
                    4. If you want to reply Tap the message and start typing.
                    5. Tap Menu and press ENTER on keyboard
                    6. Down to NEW and ENTER.
                    7. Start to type the contact name. Press TAB to select the list and DOWN to select contact and ENTER to pick.
                    8. Press TAB and start typing.
                    9. Tap SEND to end.

NOTE the TAB key works like Windows between options.
Press the OK button on the Keypad or front panel to "EXIT" the current choice.

I did load various interfaces HTC, BELL etc but still find the original panel 2 the best. (I do use XPERIA TWEAK for personal settings)

I am now waiting for the latest official ROM update. (Did load 2 non official ones already)

I bought it few days ago, the x1 is an excellent device but i think is too complicated for me :-) (...ups) I use phone a lot and its not the right phone for 100 or so calls per day. Most annoying thing is: If u want to find someone in your contact list without stylus it will be a nightmare for u. As i say at beginning i have few day experience with x1 maybe after few weeks or so ill use to it, but my first impression is: great phone, but not so user friendly softer (Windows)

Anonymous, 13 Feb 2009Ray UK Hi, well in South Africa is very sunny!! I am new... more"what makes a fone a smartfone?"

Sorry I'm a bit fuzzy about this myself. Few years back I had a Nokia 6230i, which at the time was a top-selling phone. Then I upgraded to SE K800i, which I thought was quite "smart" in the sense that I cud download and install new apps (like Yahoo Go, Google Maps), read RSS feeds, browse the internet on a nicer bigger screen and check my emails on it, cut text from one sms and paste it in a new sms. Besides all this, I think it cud have multiple apps running (not sure though). So I probably used to think of it as a smartphone.

Then I had the SE P1i until last December, which is a great phone, and definitely a smartphone. Loads of aftermarket softwares also available for that Symbian UIQ3 platform.

Now, I have graduated to X1 - my first Winmo phone. And I think it's a top end smartphone today. Many people dont like it, probably because Winmo is not as user friendly as Nokia's Symbian S60 or UIQ3, or iPhone. But I quite like it.

                          Cheers!

For some, a smartphone is a phone that runs complete operating system software, Such as windows or Blackberry. like a mini pc but as a phone.

Lynettte, 13 Feb 2009HI RAY UK :-) I'm don't print my fotos realy or crop them... moreOh, forgot to tell you about the screen with only 65k colours. It's just fine. The high WVGA resolution of the screen really makes the difference. And it's sufficiently bright even out in the sun (at least the kinda sun we have here in UK). The 65k colours of the screen is not a limitation in any way.

                                Cheers!

Lynettte, 13 Feb 2009HI RAY UK :-) I'm don't print my fotos realy or crop them... moreHi Lynette, nice to see a reply from you.

I am an amateur photographer or say a photography enthusiast. I have a DSLR to take pictures that I'd one day wanna make postcards/calendars/etc out of. I also have an ultra-compact (Panasonic FX33) for more day-to-day pictures (social gettogethers or my family), and for that purpose they're actually better than DSLR 'coz one can almost always carry it with them. The camera on mobile phones are getting better and better, I agree. But so are the other cameras too. So the gap between a mobile phone camera and say a compact camera still exists, and you know what - the gap's not going away, at least not in the foreseeable future. My point is that a phone's camera is only to be used when one doesn't have access to other cameras, it certainly is not a replacement for a proper camera.

So that makes a phone's camera less of a factor to judge a phone by (and this applies to any phone, not just X1).

Also, as I say to some of my friends... The best camera is the one you have with you when you need it. A Canon EOS1D with an fast f/1.8 image-stabilized lens sitting in your cupboard shelf is no good at that time. So if you have a really good moment - say meeting up with an old friend or kids having fun on the snow - and want to capture those moments, and you just have your camera phone, then that's the best camera at that time. Use it. Get those moments captured. Of course, you wont be able to enter a photography competition with those pictures, but that isn't the purpose anyway.

I'd also like to point you to my previous posts regarding camera resolution. You could search on "24mp" and should be able to find it them straight away.

Hope I've been of some help.

                                  Cheers!
