the X1 made by HTC.
Some of the SE phones made by HTC and Sagem.
Check out Sagem! :))))
Really interesting.
They have announced about 14 phones in February 2008 :)
from them 12 still ´coming soon´
:))))
GSMArena NEWS:
˝The next Sony Ericsson XPERIA won’t be made by HTC˝
I wonder who will get the contract?
Sagem?
That is gonna be another smat move from SE :)))
Probably, by 2011 Sagem will be ready to manufacture a phone with greater than 2˝screen (or 2.4 :).
:))))

direwolf_65, 23 Jan 2009I posted earlier, don't know why it did not show.
But Ray... moreI'm dont quite understand why the network should charge you extra for having a smartphone. Sounds bizzare really. Unless of course if you are getting additional services from them like BlackBerry Connect. Still I feel $30/month is a bit steep for that. Over here I think it's £10/month for the BlackBerry package, and that itself includes unlimited data (so effectively about £3/month over the regular unlimited-data package). But people, dont quote me on this 'coz I've never had BlackBerry Connect; just had a regular data package always.
In answer to yr question, I dont think the network would know if you start using a smartphone that you get by yourself (and frankly they shouldn't care).
Cheers!

SE X1released for 1100 USD and we should hack?
Some people here declare X1 as a top of the line - Porsche of the mobile.
You know I know a few people who has Porsche and nobody had to go under the hood to get it to work on the first day.
I guess X1 is the I can´t think of any junk car model ...
and the fact SE released phones with cracked cases and the answer is : only from this date to that date ... no apology, no recall . well that is also not Porsche like ...
The X1 performance is slow, unreliable, and if you think you can ˝hack˝it to work that is fine with me - enjoy your phone.
I guess the next model we need to assembly the shi.tty unit and burn the ROMs.

But Ray UK is right, it is all considered data, and that is not what they charge extra for. All I know is if they sell you a smart phone, YOU HAVE TO PAY $30 extra a month for it, on top of your internet, go figure. I am just trying to find out if I got the X1 unlocked, and did not tell my carrier, would they 'know' the difference?, or tell that I had a smart phone?
To me that is like having to pay extra for internet just because I went from Windows XP to Vista.

Some are poiting to one review or another, but i found the best thing is to just read peoples expšeriance on xda forum, where only pro's are, not peopple who cant use the phone. Here is a thread talking abaut speed. everyone says it is instant, except for panel chage abaut 2 sec.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=436762
As for thumb optimized. You can do all with finger, while it is phon calling, browsing, email reading, writing, messenger, simple settings, most applications, as application thumb friendliness is same on every phonne it does not depend on phone. So you actualy need stylus for setting or for applications that are written to be with stylus.
I just can't imagine Windows Remote withount stylus...

How well does the phone work as an MP3 Player / FM radio compared to say a Walkman phone. I use my MP3 player (a walkman) quite a bit. Is XPERIA comparable or is a 'jack of all trades'. Thanks

U, 22 Jan 2009Hi ray, i have gone through ur 14 jan post, its really a he... moreOh sorry mate, I forgot to reply to that question of yours - whether the X1 is thumb optimised.
Well, my simple answer to that is "No". I tried a friend's iPhone 3G and a working unit of Samsung Omnia at a store before I bought my X1. Those, you could say, are thumb optimized - basically because they have large application icons and large on-screen keyboard. But coming from P1i, I really dint enjoy composing messages using the virtual keyboard, it was too slow and error prone. And I do a fair bit of messaging/emails. So having a good keyboard was most crucial in any phone I get. X1's full qwerty keyboard is certainly nice (though I'm still not as fast as I was with the P1i. Maybe it'll just take some time.)
Anyway, coming back to your question again - the X1's screen has a pretty high resolution for it's size, so you get really tiny icons/filename/appnames sometimes. And the virtual keyboard is also the standard Winmo keyboard which is kinda hard to use with fingers - you definitely need the stylus for that. I do find myself using the stylus more with the X1 than with my P1 (It could partly be because it's my new toy and I just like to play with it too much!) I have heard someone mention that you can install a bigger virtual keyboard that comes on some HTC touchscreen phones. I haven't tried that though.
Some bits are fine - like the SPB Mobile Shell panel is very touch optimized with large icons - so is its own Contacts viewing app. The standard phone dialer screen that opens when you press the left phone key is also fine.
Don’t know if what I said will help you much to make a decision, but I would anytime choose this phone over the Omnia or iPhone. Nothing against them, it's just my preference.

Some... more-Reception fixed with new radio=you have to hack it
-craks only apperent on models manufatured in the last 2 weeks in nov or smt like that
-battery fixed with optimizations, new ROM=you have to hack it
-as for being slow, i saw Xperia running Toutch Flo 3D as fast as Diamond, and that is instantanious, how is instant slow?
So to summon it up. Windows MOible at current development is suitable only to those who will flash it several times and hack it.
So perfect for me. unfortuanly for Sony most people are not geeks and they want out of the boy workingmachine, well w8 for Windows Mobile 7 for that.

Dan, 22 Jan 2009I'm not that crazy about SE Xperia X1. I have owned and use... moreYou say Nokia E90 is responsive?!? I will switch it for X1 in abaut a mont and will report, but if you used google you would notice, that Xperia is more responsive than E90. Sure nokia is instant as far as phone calling goes, but opening gmail and applications is just slow...
Don't even mention the Symbianweb browser, it loads 3 times slower than opera + it First loads that white screen, than renders again.... Just painful to browse with it. Otherwise Messenger and stuff it rocks, just so many errors for programs like messenger.
Hardly w8 for X1, which has all that stuff intergrated and much better supported.
I will miss the glorious 4" screen and Qwerty on E90 though. No phone on the market, that can match it. But i gues better 3" on X1, while being a lot less bulky.

I'm not that crazy about SE Xperia X1. I have owned and used 3 Symbian smartphones, 2 WinMo devices, and a Palm.
The xperia is an eye candy but
(1) the reaction time is just too slow. Remember the 1st gen HTC Touch? Xperia's responsiveness trumps it by a small fraction.
(2) The display is gorgeous but small. Period.
(3) The QWERTY keypad is sub-par to most QWERTY enabled devices. I would have to agree with most reviews.
If you're not too crazy with WinMo pro. I advice a WinMo classic device or better yet, go for a Symbian.
The Nokia E90 v300 is really very responsive.
