the Xperia X1 is going to be available at Best Buy on Black Friday(11-28-08)/in a couple of days. it's on BestBuy.com for $799.99...only silver. no carrier yet, so $799.99 is the price.

im tempted to buy it, but this is why im going to wait...

i personally believe that Sony Ericson announced this phone early in the year to get people hyped on on buying it, and then laid a large price tag on it so that those hyped up customers will have a hard time not buying it and waiting for the price to drop. market manipulation.

if this phone was released at $499.99, i would buy it in a heart beat.

on top of that, i want to see what the HTC Touch HD is like.

if im going to pay $500+ for a cell phone, im going to make sure it's something i like A LOT. decent laptops go for less than $799.99. why not buy a decent laptop and get a cheap free phone with a contract?

that's just my personal opinion.

With a name like the Sony Ericsson XPERIA-X1 how could you go wrong? The XPERIA-X1 is a fusion of communication, entertainment and technology. This cell phone is very sleek and professional looking, not to mention innovative. It weighs 5.1 ounces and measures 4.3 x 2.1 x 0.7 inches.

The XPERIA-X1 is a superphone that is particularly unique and one of a kind because it is the first cell phone released by Sony Ericsson that runs Windows Mobile operating system. This is a first for Sony Ericsson. Up until now, Sony Ericsson has made all of their phones based on the Symbian/UIQ.

Available in black or silver colors, this arc slider phone has a metal finish. It has a 3” 800 x 480 pixel resolution touchscreen display and a QWERTY keyboard.

The navigation is easy to use, which includes the touchscreen panel as well as the four-way joystick. You have the ability to customize the panel interface by way of your preference.

Due to the fact that the Sony Ericsson XPERIA-X1 is equipped with the Windows Mobile operating system, this means that it is preloaded upon purchase with a variety of Microsoft Applications. These applications include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer, Outlook, and the Mobile Media Player. This means that a user can use any of these programs from virtually anywhere he or she is. This makes for tremendous ease and convenience!

The phone has Stereo Bluetooth technology, Wi-Fi support, and a miniUSB slot. But that is not all that is special about the Sony Ericsson XPERIA-x1. This phone has a built-in GPS navigation system, ultra-fast 3G data connectivity (HSDPA, HSUPA and UMTS), and quad-band GSM capable of global roaming.

If you are concerned about how much storage the XPERIA-X1 allows for then don’t be. The internal storage is equal to 400MB. As far as extra storage goes, Sony Ericsson thought of everything. There is a microSD card slot for that purpose.

The XPERIA-X1 has a 3.2 megapixel camera, as well as an FM radio. The screen is a very large, 3.0-inch LCD touchscreen. Many say that the screen of the XPERIA-X1 is a rival to the Apple iPhone that burst onto the scene in 2007.

So much can be said about the XPERIA-X1 LCD touchscreen. The surface is very responsive to fingers and there is no lag time. The backlight levels and the image quality are stunning.

The tile home screen layout allows for a page preview layout of nine programs in total. From the list of these nine programs you can then tap or shuffle to find the one that interests you. This is where a user really comes to see that the user interface and screen are excellent. There’s no lag time as you go through each screen preview.

            Pros

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA-X1 is cutting edge and most definitely a leap in the right direction for Sony Ericsson. Its pros include:
Merges the elements of communications and multimedia
            Runs on Windows Mobile OS
            3.2 megapixel camera
            QWERTY keyboard
            Very easy navigational system
            FM radio
            Bluetooth
            USB connectivity
            Gigantic touchscreen
            Touchscreen is extremely responsive
            Cons

No negative points have come to light as of yet regarding the Sony Ericsson XPERIA-X1.
            Overall

If you adore the Windows Operating System then you will be tickled pink by the XPERIA-X1 by Sony Ericsson. This star product really does stand out from its competitors. It has many excellent features and is truly a leader in its class. The XPERIA-X1 comes highly recommended.

Just drop your mp3 tracks in to /ringtones or you can use Ringo Mobile for ringtones etc.

I do agree somewhat and have said before that these smartfones should have a caution with them..I have had 5 windows devices before this and umpteen symbian fones but if someone likes this fone who has just come from say a d900 then its going to be a hell of a shock to them..

I am not insuting anyones intelligence but even with what ive learnt these smartfones are pretty techy and work differently ..The person with normal fone wont know to press menu key in symbian to bring up running apps to exit them and so on and on..

If i got a new series 60 wthin the hour all my fave apps are on and fone is set to my liking but wanted a challenge this time instead of same old symbian,,by hell i have found that challege..I have had xperia 4 days and still in a tizzy but getting their..Its the files and folders and controlling the 16gb card and getting mp3 ringtones to work thats causing the delays for me..

Have checked for cracks and other complaints but ok up to now and still could not care less abut wi-fi,,with unlimited plan and hsdpa/hsupa etc i can well do without the extortionate wi-fi charges and battery draing feature of wi-fi..

You do know you can change the UI to be like iphone,s60 etc WM is without limitations..I can change almost everything to suit ME.eg I wanted my browser to load large webpages faster so I increased the TCP window size and increased the number of connections to 32...i'm afraid with symbian devices your 3G data has a max of 4connections...

This phone is a pleb killer, get it if you know computers. Otherwise if you struggle with advanced computing then you are going to be baffled by the advanced aspects of windows Mobile.

                                  from the Cnet review:

"Aside from the interactive panels and a couple of multimedia extras, Xperia X1 is very much like other Windows Mobile 6.1 devices and the aforementioned features don't seem to justify spending the extra dough."

read... "very much like other window mobile 6.1 device"

At $799, it is just not worth it¨

                                  Looser me?
