I've had Samsungs for years now, but I'm really getting fed up with their battery life (had an S8 Plus, Note 9, S21 Plus). This looks like a serious contender for me to switch. I really wish they'd have a 6" version. It's frustrating having these massive phones

Anonymous, 03 Jun 2022Where can i read about this? Is it ony for the 1 IV & 10 IVThe company did give us a firm commitment to software support for the Xperia 1 IV: two Android upgrades and three years of security patches. Since the phone launches with Android 12, that means it will see Android 13 and Android 14. After that, though, the phone will stay on Android 14.

JamesF, 02 Jun 2022Would really prefer this with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. Or e... moreSony upped they OS upgrade & update support by 1 year(3 OS & 4 security updates) but less than Samsungs(4 OS & 5 security), eitherway its much easier to unlock bootloader or downgrade Sony phones than Samsung with their horrendous Knox & downgrade block, not to mention disabled functionality like fingerprint, camera, etc. so ill go for Sony instead if your one to do custom roms.

I've always been impressed with the Sony phones
I've owned and that's not that many as they last!

I retired my Sony Xperia z5 compact last year, I nearly pulled the trigger on the Xperia 1iii but the deal here where I am living was terrible
I chose the z5 at the time due to its camera and ease of use, along with having a lot of Sony products already to work with it at home it integrated well.

I went for an OPPO find X3 Pro instead to replace my Sony, camera wise the X3 pro is impressive as is its build quality (I was a fan of the media players)

Then just recently I had the chance to borrow an Xperia 5 MK3 and that was it for the week , I didn't take a single picture using my find X3 Pro because I loved what I could achieve with the 5 MK3 , I've used Alpha camera's so I knew what I was doing and that's Sony, it gives you absolute control with your creativity, if you take the time to learn it you'll love it .
The 5 MK3 felt great in hand and again nice build quality

I still like my OPPO and I'll keep it for quite some time but if I'd had the chance later down the line I'd brought the 1 MK4 as it's quite the improvement over the 1 mkiii

Build quality is as good as it gets , I think android 7 was the last update I got on my z5 compact and the security update was from ages ago but I've not had an issue that I'm aware off.

Price wise it's a difficult one , the problem is the phone is more than some of their main cameras but nothing that fits in your pocket gives you that much control, especially if you're into post editing footage

As for the HW rumor it says my X3 Pro uses an imx 686 on the main camera when it shows an imx766 on the OPPO site so who knows, it's also a brand new device so the communication from HW information may match that if another sensor uses the same read/write pattern

Either way still a beautiful phone , I'm glad they stuck with the design and the features they're known for

To me they are a enthusiast phone but I do think longer software support to help improve the camera functions and to refresh the UI to keep the phone feeling fresh would help justify the price tag but again the downside of a small market makes it harder to maintain that notion

Would really prefer this with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. Or even Dimensity 9000. At least they improved the manual screen brightness from 350 nits to 600 nits. They need to give 4 years of updates at that price. 2 years which means Android 13 and maybe Android 14 is not good enough.
