The last fixed focus camera phone I owned was the old Razr V3 I think. From then on it was (at the time) amazing Samsung D900, before I upgraded to the Blackberry and now I Desire Z. Even though I really do like having autofocus capabilities, on my Desire Z I kind of keep it off now. Mainly because full focus mode is so much quicker then auto. Yeah I can't take a close-up shot but in reality how many people who take pictures with their phone even notice it. With an 8mp sensor it wouldn't make that much of a difference. For people who are up in arms about what Nokia has chosen to do, go out and buy a little 50 dollar point an shoot digital camera. No one is trying to take groung breaking pictures with a phone (unless you own the N8 that's a whole new kind of amazing). Cell phone cameras are for quick moments that happen, something that you just want to caputure, and some phones with auto-focus, that moment is gone before the picture is even taken. It's all about what people need from a device, if you want an auto focus camera then get a phone that's got that feature, if not then go for fixed focus. At the end of the day all the people who are mad about this have no intention on getting any of these devices, and are just ranting for no reason.

nokia should continue with AF rather than fix focus. If they claimed fix focus is good why N8 is different from others?

i love the n8 and was always a fan of symbian, but im not going to buy it yet. we all know nokia will release a bunch of phones with symbian 3 with different specs

full focus comes in handy for taking shots of fast moving objects. but im not defending nokia - autofocus wasnt hard to implement

however, samsung galaxy s has no led flash so go figure...

Look every phone suits different people and needs. You cant have Nokia to make same spec phones on every model. If you dont like this model just get another one. Nobody forcing you to buy these models. Maybe unless its Apple. One model either you like it or dont. It doesn't give choices to people. Rich or poor. I have the N86, E72 and now N8. Believe me although the E72 is just a business phone its easier to take a quick shot of something. Quality can be compares to my N86 at time. Sometimes you just want to take the shot and no hassle. Thats the reason why some people buy a Point & Shoot (Compact camera) and some go for DSLR. By the way I've seen people using DSLR on Auto mode so its more than what some people can chew.

oh come on guys. When Apple made the iPhone without autofocus it sold millions. When Nokia who is the worlds biggest phone giant makes a fixed focus camera phone evrybody says its bad. You cant have everything in a phone. Lets face it even with a fixed focus camera it still takes better quality photos than iPhone or Android after uploading it to your computer to view. IPhone has lots of noise, of course you have to look at it on your computer screen. Android color algorithm is not accurate plus noise. I rather have a good quality photo than one that has autofocus but cant give good quality

Oh, I just figured out the reason why the almighty brand put fix focus cam on C6, C7 and E7, which is simple....

so within 6 months the company can release another batch of NEW phones called C6-0?, C7-0? and E7-0? with auto focus cams....

This company simply loves to constantly release so called "new" models so to dominate the various media....

No autofocus, no buy, it's that simple. As far as I remembered I'm the consumer, don't try and convince me otherwise when I know for sure autofocus would be a better buy.Nice try Nokia and that goes for any other manufacture too,so don't think Im hating or trolling guys.

The main reason why I love my N82 is because it makes 8cm macro photos. I had the best espontaneous photos with high quality using my N82 on the go. I am not going to buy anything else that can't do better than 8cm macro. Never, ever, kiddos!
