These people who are commenting here I assume are technology followers/ enthusiast or even have careers within technology - So it really surprises me how can one person (some knowledge of technology ) can say something is enough???? When all you have to do is warp back..... a year ago, 2 years ago, 5 years ago, decade ago, .......ANd be able to see to see the progression that whats enough AT ONE TIME, will not be enough for future.????
I dont get you and the arguments...... Next quarter apple or samsung has released some advancement.....in whatever area in technology,,, and you just changed your mind whats enough ????

4gb skinned Huawei runs faster than 6gb empty stockish android of One Plus.
At present 6gb might be important for someone who can't afford a computer and posts on Instagram screenshots of his antutu benchmarks. Besides that with current apps and UI android offers, it gives no performance advantage.
Of course 2 years from now tech develops in multitude of ways and apps might require more ram but that's not what Huawei's Richard Yu was referring too. 2 years from now every aspect of the phone CPU GPU battery camera will develop and your 8gb phone will be crap regardless.

They're basically pocketable computers. It's not ridiculous to have as much RAM as possible in your main computer ... especially since Android makes such excellent use of it (look the post above).

ithehappy, 06 Mar 2017Android is the most unoptimised ecosystem there is, so ther... moreIt's not lack of optimization. It's actually part of Android's optimization. The more RAM you have the more it's going to use. RAM is a resource and if it is not to be used it's actually useless.
The philosophy of android (and most linux systems) is that since RAM is "always on" better fill it with as much stuff as possible.
So you'll see your 6GB phone nearly filled even if you did few things and you'd wonder, why come it became filled. Then you'd see an 8GB phone doing the same...
The reason is simple. Android puts app cache there, android puts background apps there, so eventually both the /cache and /data partition little-by-little are getting uploaded on RAM. Use your phone far enough and most of your RAM is going to be used making the loading of anything really much smoother. That's one of the key optimizations of Android, it's smart, and it's one of the best features of Android.
People often misunderstand the point of RAM on android and linux systems. It's not to be used by foreground app alone, it's always used and from as many systems as possible ... else it's like letting a great resource going to waste...

4 GB is enough RAM, but if other OEMs are going in the future with 6-8 GB than you have to react. It's a matter of business, you have to stay in pair with other companies, although it sounds ridiculous to have a phone with 8 GB of RAM, or even 6 GB.

Android is the most unoptimised ecosystem there is, so there is need for more RAM, at least to keep the apps in memory, otherwise 3/4 GB should be more than enough for daily tasks.

Yeah, you had your percentages wrong. Whether people know it or not 99% of the times *will* use the extra RAM.
My OnePlus 3T never reloads an app, even if I opened it last , 3 days ago...
The whole idea that RAM can (even in principle) go unused on a Linux Based system is laughable. Thankfully the OS is smarter than most people so you *will* get smart use of it no matter what.
Running on a ramdisk is the smoothest thing ever. Keep your reloading mess of a phone.
Finally android are getting the smoothness of IOS and people are complaining not knowing why/how they get it in the first place... I don't know whether I should laugh or cry...

Yes it is. With the ridiculous hybrid slots, the internal memory would be much more important. As a dual sim user with 50GB+ of music, my choice is very limited. Unless i pay tons of money for a flagship with 128GB or more. But then again, with the ridiculous non-removable batteries i won't pay so much money for a phone with an expiration date. And i don't want to pay much more for more (overprised) internal memory when i already have an SD card.

If everything else is equal it will almost certainly be of benefit. Given the price difference is minimal it should be a no brainer. It is a testmament to the integrities of the phone companies they can say otherwise and then to add insult to imjury actually sell devices with 6GB of RAM at the same time. So let'sthink about that the other way around. Are Huawei now telling us they knowingly charged us extra for something that we did not need that would degrade performance? The words too much do seem to imply that!

Speaking from experience, I have OnePlus 3 and never got even close to filling 6GB of RAM, even when intentionally trying to do it. (before someone points it out, I did tweak build.prop to make sure apps don't get killed in background)

Clever engineering, optimization and synchronization of ALL the components such as the OS, motherboard, SoC, RAM,ROM, apps is what really makes the difference in terms of device performance and user experience.
Talking about the size of the RAM in a given device in isolation of other drivers is neither here nor there. It's always a PACKAGE.

This reminds me of pixel war we used to have a couple of years ago. Unless major brands stop constantly increasing numbers in specifications we're still going to see this fight. Especially, when customers vote for pushing everything to the limits.
