They lowered the requirements to only require infrared and camera so it's cheaper and easier to put in laptops etc.. So there's a variety of different ones out there.

I like the ease, convenience and likely more reliability of fingerprint sensor than face recognition. Just prefer it.

First you better understand the difference between an ordinary face recognition and real sense recognition.
I didn't mean to hold the phone in similar way to take selfie. I meant, using fingerprint, phone can be unlocked while taking it out from pocket without even looking it, but face ID, it's not possible.

Does force touch embedded under the display cease functioning just because of scratch? No. Why would under display fingerprint cease to function just because of scratch?
Copy? This is made by Synaptics and will be supplied by Synaptics to all and any manufacturer who wants to use it. This is not copying, this is selling of technology. Vivo just happened to have got into it earlier. Vivo even had MoU with Qualcomm for the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor back last year but suddenly switch to Synaptics solution. Qualcomm version is too slow.

nice tech.
I'm interested to know if we need to turn the screen on first to use the fingerprint.
What if the front screen is shattered, will it still work?
What is the cost of a replacement screen having that technology?
Will it impact the RGB lighting of the screen?

Rafe Firman, 11 Jan 2018You mean U12 ?U12 seems to be confirmed with 4K LCD again. Those two guys who gave you upvotes should understand that there's no 4K OLED on phones yet. Only on TVs.

I think Vivo cant wait patiently in Qualcomm cooperstion in under the glass display.. You see Mi5s (uses Ultra sonic by Qualcomm fingerprint sensor under the glass) is one step closer to under the glass f-sensor they just need to think how they cant put it under the display

are you saying you can only unlock it by first pressing a button to switch the screen on first, then placing your finger on the specific part of the display? doesn't this make it slower?

Samsung was already thinking about doing it tbf, but the reasons not to have it outweigh the benefits, probably why they didn't incorporate it into the s9

Lol at people saying they no longer use "obsolete" fingerprint scanners. Good thing the world doesn't revolve around arrogant kids like you.
On topic, this is definitely good news for the tech. A few more refinements and the in-display fingerprint scanner will become a staple smartphone feature. I'd like to see the final product from vivo sport a faster and near-perfectly accurate implementation. They should be able to find ways to do so, especially if they don't rush the release. Job well done.
