Dutchy, 23 Nov 2011Funny, Nokia sales started only at November 17th. This &quo... moreVery true.

Firstly, Mango itself is only a couple of months old; and the Lumia came along only last month.

And more importantly unlike iPhone, Nokia's key markets are in Asia - India, Pakistan, Indonesia etc where the Lumia hasn't even released yet!

One wonders how these "analysts" work...

I honestly saw this coming. The Lumia 800 when I saw it did nothing for me. The first "True Windows 7" phone at the same level as some of the plain old first WP7 devices. HTC dose it way better than Nokia can, and so dose Samsung. Also considering that they reach out to some of the most obscure markets (can't get it in the US) it just makes no sense. Personally the N9 is the one of the most coveted devices I've seen in a long time. I had no clue what MeeGo was at first but the N9 is the first phone that I've truly "wanted" in a long time, not since probably the old Samsung Innov8 (going old school). All in all it's a shame that it's not going to take off, but for something with that much work behind it's a shame that it's gonna fail.

Anonymous, 23 Nov 2011as a polite question to the nokia die hards /hard core fans... moreSimple (and polite :P) answer:
The dymanics of the mobile industry was different pre-iPhone era.
Touch interfaces were terrible - mostly with a stylus and not too friendly (like the SE P-series, Windows Mobile 6.5 etc.)

Symbian was good; and it was optimised for keypad-based phones.
When iPhone and Android came along, the dynamics changed to touch-based phones.
Symbian realized it was far behind on touchscreen UI to catch up.

And it doesn't matter if you have the greatest most powerful OS in the world; the average Joe only sees the interface, and that's what interests him.
(Like UNIX vs. Windows - despite UNIX behind a zillion times more powerful, more of the common folk use Windows)

      Hence, Symbian failed.

no wonder. WP is not a popular OS amongst all OS even to Symbian. Windows OS succeed in desktop or laptop but not in mobile phone.

the phone is expensive and got no tv-out,nfc,front camera, external storage and once again the price is too high, so no suprise if nobody want it.
i want wp7 phone from nokia but im very disappointed with lumia series, 800 good design bad price,710 bad desing decent price but both lack something behind their competitors.

windows phone 7 will live on that's for sure - cuz samsung and htc got some cool mobiles for the platform already available . plus i hope they wont change app compatibility in the next windows phone version which will surely make its fan base low . and i dont think nokia have done the correct thing by getting attached to windows , instead they should've gone for android . plus nokia's all time popular symbian is dead and theres no point of reinventing the same os again which nokia have tried to do . one other thing is that win phone 7 really needs some more applications and a good enough new update to get to where i os and android are today .

Jeez! What do they expect? Even a moron can predict this. Example, you can't sell more or sell at all with a product that has features and offerings only half of what your competitors have and who can sell at half of their price. This could be an exaggeration but that is the logic behind it. Come on Nokia, is that the best you can do? Do not fantasize you are capable of what Jobs has done for the rest of you – convince the rest of the world that his product he is selling is what you need. Rather,
                          1. Create a good looking phone and offer hardware features that match your competitor.
                          2. Expand OVI to match your competitor’s service offerings. Get a solid foot hold on social networks and gaming platform, and support from developers.
                          3. Last, sell it on a price that will make buyers think twice before they buy your competitor’s handset, (not the other way around).
Easier said than done right? But have you considered this? NOT!
You are not yet in the arena of iPhone and Android powered handsets. You are in the proving grounds – and it seems you are failing in the proving grounds. Unless you can think of better way, you will not enter the arena.

Apple sold a lot due to its brand name and with a little of the late steve job's 'magic'. Android is widely used by almost all oem's so is pretty obvious that it will have the largest market share. To top that off, development for symbian was awfully slow and painful plus s60v5 was just a sad joke for everyone.
