Samsung have long been rumored to get rid of the jack in last couple of S and Note releases, but still kept it. It's still a big difference maker between them and Apple. A lot of people want their jacks (including me), wired still has the best possible sound quality. Motorola were the first to get rid of it in their Z series but just brought it back due to complaints. Even Google brought it back for their Pixel 3a. Smartphone sales are in general decline enough without turning off even more people removing stuff they want.

Anonymous, 01 Jun 2019Your should probably see this news. https://www.dailymail.... moreWell i'm using over-the-ear phones, so i don't think that there's any chance of this happening. Besides, i mostly use both features simultaneously while driving (With my car amplifier).

Another feature that nobody wants, nobody will find useful, but will add to the pricetag anyway... Seriously some of the ""innovations"" in the smartphone industry are just beyond genius:

          1) We're going to seal the battery shut to prevent users from changing it easily!
          2) We're going to give the phone glass back so it has double chance of cracking and making the user look goofy!
          3) We're going to make the phone as big as possible so user can't use it with one hand. Also extra chance of cracking the glass back!
          4) We're going to remove headphone jack, even though there aren't any wireless earbuds with a decent price/performance ratio yet!
          5) Do you like your classic, reliable clicklable buttons? No issues with those, right? Well how about we switch them to these completely unpredictable touch-able edges which sometimes shuts the screen off when you pick it up, opens camera for no reason, accidentaly turns the screen on and off when you don't pick with right pressure, unlocks in your pocket when take a long step or activates silent mode when you take a step too short... But best of all? You're going to pay extra 20$ because you have to pay for our research on this bullsh*t innovation!

                Practicability vs. Coolness

I prefer the practicability, if there is no jack I will don't buy the phone, simple decision. Some people love the ear buds and the bluetooth connections, personally I hate the ear buds and the bluetooth connections, all this is probably because I am an sound engineer, you cannot compare the ear buds sound quality with, for example, the Sennheiser HD25 head phones sound quality.

If a song sounds good on the Sennheiser HD25 head phones using an Note 8 (for example), you are 100% sure that it will sounds good also on the KRK or Genelec monitors or a K1/K2 sound systems from L-Acoustics, D&B J/GLS sound systems, Adamson and so on...

So, if they quit the jack I also quit the Samsung phone, easy decision for me.

P.S. I just bought a galaxy tab 4s instead of 5 just because the 5 had no headphones...

Totally fine without headphone jack. I already have USB-C headphones from my Google Pixel 3. As long as I have WIRED USB-C headphones to save battery life, I'm good. The no physical buttons is actually more of my worries.
