Weekly poll: did Microsoft outsmart Android makers with the Surface Duo?

06 October 2019
It's not Microsoft's first Android phone and this is hardly the first dual screen device. So why did it create such a buzz?

Duo is indeed something very refreshing in this saturated world of Android smartphones.... And MS is smart not to jump into the same nonsense by Samsung and Huawei with the fold-able wrinkled screens. And MS is smart not to go head-to-head with the camera but more into productivity means. However that being said, I will get a Neo instead of Duo. I rather like the Window 10X.

Walter C. Dornez, 06 Oct 2019I really don't understand why people are hyped about this thing. Because it is Microsoft products.

Other android makers are already busy at work copying this design.

Everything their fanboys laugh at, will be implemented by their android master in one shape or form.

I notice about half the voters appear to be in the Atlantic Ocean. What's up with that ?

Anonymous, 06 Oct 2019You guys notice she took it out of her purse? How many of ... moreerhmm this might come as a surprise to you, but quite a lot of women caries bags. And it might also be a surprise to you that over half the human population are women.... So all in all even if not being pocketable is a limitation to you and me, it by far means that it is to everyone - or even a major part of the population.

But sure I too find it oversized, primarily as it is way to big for one hand operation closed, for all but a small fraction, that can reach a 90mm wide device keeping a secure grip.

                    Tbh, Microsoft always thinks ahead.
Windows Phone was such ahead of time back then.
Dark mode, split and swype keyboard. Partnering with Nokia, they gave birth to Lumia 920 with OIS, 60Hz Display, Night Mode, Wireless Charging, Super Sensitive Touch, etc.

You guys notice she took it out of her purse? How many of you guys carry a purse? This is why foldable phones will not sell well. It's just a fad. At the end of the day, people want a small thin phone that can slip in their pocket. Nobody wants to carry around two phones.

i don't get it. what's the point? I still only see five categories: smartwatches, phones, tablets, laptops and desktops. the surface pro and ipads are tablets with a keyboard and mouse. laptops that are a touchscreen and do a 360 are still laptops.

                          Also, Microsoft hasn't thought about
                          1) the bloat with overlapping MS and Google apps
                          2) an alternative app store for Android (which would be epic)
                          3) the icons. there's some reddit post on r/Windows10 that covered it.

T-rex, 06 Oct 2019It is sad to see windows phone gone. Competition is always ... moreYeah, that's a shame. It's not just Windows Phone that fails to rock the Google-Apple duopoly, even the likes of BlackBerry 10 and Ubuntu Touch also failed to do the same. Today, you literally have no other choice for mobile OS. It's either Android or iOS, and that's it.

Should have an option for "This device shouldn't exist at all".

Android in a Microsoft device? No thanks, I'll stick with the outdated Windows Phone. I have a much more fluid experience using Windows Phone after I left Android for it. App gap? Never been an issue for me, I have all the required apps that I use everyday and all is well.

P.S Will definitely eyeing on Surface Neo all the way.

Obviously you will go for one android pocketable device, no matter how awesome sw will get on that one. If they want to compete, top cameras and design is a must.
