Being a windows phone fan those days this was the phone I recommend to my non techy friends and I made 9 of them buy this one 520 and some other mid range phone if my memory is right 720. I was so sure about windows phone becoming the second biggest platform after Android and a true force in the smartphone market. But alas it never happened.

I had a lumia 640xl for 2½ years before changing to 950xl. For me both phone are good and still runs well, even the photo from 950xl is better than some phone (only drawback is it uses a lot of batt power)

This hits me with nostalgia, 5 years feels like a long time ago.
Got this on 30/7/14 for £59.95 + £10 Top Up locked to Tesco Mobile from Carphone Warehouse. Was my first smartphone. Replaced it with a LG Leon 4G (same price) on 17/12/15.
This was a great phone, had no issues until the last few months. The design and performance were great (8.1 slowed it down a little), battery life also (for most of its life). The only things I disliked were the lack of apps, lack of Nokia's ClearBlack display and the lack of a camera flash. For the price this was the best.
Can't say I miss WP (I'm using it right now on a Lumia 925, £26.95 used) but I can say that I wish it was still supported and working well (8.1 and 10 work fine). I prefer 8.0 over 8.1 for the most part, no browser works very well (not the case for 8.1), can't even use YouTube or eBay for example.
Downgraded my 925 using Windows Phone Internals to its original Amber firmware (might update it to 8.1). The main reason why I'm on 8.0 is because 8.1 is obviously a little slower (more functional though) and the fact that it supports VPN's, this allowed me to watch p--- without my parents having any idea. Don't wanna risk watching it again, relapsed many times. Anyone have any idea, of a smartphone with 1080p video recording that doesn't support VPN's (Android 1.5 has a working VPN, same with Symbian)? Would really help. All VPN software on 8.1 don't work (except one for a while, doesn't work, but it could work at some point in the future, or if I use a different email address to sign in even though that didn't work).
The 925 has good video recording so I can continue making videos on my main YouTube channel (same name as my username without spaces).
My 520 is still upstairs (cracked the digitizer last year but fixed it) and functions well.
Have had 6 Windows Phones since: 550 (gave to a friend), 820 (sold), 540 (sold), 625 (was meant to be a side phone to my 925 but the screen arrived broken so got a refund), 925 (main phone for the time being) and a HTC Titan (selling it soon, useless).
Planning to get a new OEM battery for my 925 as the battery doesn't even last 2.5 hours (screen-on-time), should last between 4.5 and 6 hours.

Wasn't bad at all. I had one a couple years ago and the only real downside was the lack of apps. The camera was pretty great, way better than what I expected. (Ok technically I owned the 521, but that's just the TMobile version)

I had a chance to use this one back in the day for a short amount of time. And yes, for the price it was offering a lot, and I almost went for it, but I decided to stick with android mostly because of the app support, which was always lacking in some way on Windows phone side. But yeah, it was definitely one of the phones almost everyone had, and two phones that marked that time were definitely Lumia 1020 and 520, atleast for me.

I really like windows phone. I had MS 535 and i used it for a week. And unfortunately its back light got damaged and i returned to the seller. Then I took android phone and now I am using that. But not I am bored with android. Same layout, old fashion, same icons as from old basic phones. So now i am waiting for a windows phone, hoping they will relaunch a new windows phone.

Johnny, 07 Oct 2019Shame on windows for yet again dropping support! You gobble... moreThey couldn't make their own version of Snap etc. Some did do that, but Snap blocked them eventually.
The creators of snapchat are serious apple fanboys, so they simply refused to make an app for Windows Phone as it was against their religion.
If it hadn't been for android massive advantage over ios in market share, I'm sure they wouldn't have bothered making an app for android either. This fanboyism of theirs is also why snap on android was so buggy, to make iphone look more appealing. They did cave eventually though, though there are some devices where snaps are from their phones' viewfinder (screenshots essentially) and not proper photos.

Lumia 520 is a great device, I have used it for almost 3 years without any issue.
