Flashback: the Sony Ericsson K800 was as versatile as James Bond and the first Cyber-shot phone

02 August 2020
It even starred in Casino Royale. This phone was a digital camera, a music player, a portable gaming machine, it could upload photos to blogs too.

My Silver K800 Bond edition still works, I have a few mp3s on it and a lot of SMS that are fun to read now and then.
A very nice phone back in the days

Age of Empires looked pretty good, though I can't imaging playing an RTS with a joystick:

I still have it in my collection in an original box, I think it might still work. The camera was great, loved the Xenon so much that some time later I got a Nokia N8, and the photos were excellent. The games for it were great, I even had a bunch of themes for it. The display sunlight visibility was excellent too.
There were a few downsides though, the vibrating alert was too weak and I missed a few calls because of it, the volume in the earphone was also low, and the body had this "cheap plastic" feeling as it was squeaking like a nylon bag if I squeezed the phone too hard. Still, good memories.

Bruh this thing could run Counter Strike? I'd rather have it than the original iPhone lmao.

In 2006 i bought the k750i for about i think 150'ish EUR, used it till 2012 when i got my first android phone. I wonder what the price of the k800 was, seems like next level compared to the k750i even. Those were truly great times for phones, Symbian phones were full of soul, you could feel the amount of effort that went into them.

back in the days they made good things

But instead we have over priced slabs, with planned obsolescence, and underwhelming tech advancement.

My first phone was Sony Ericsson J-110 , and my brother had SE W-810 back in 2008, I love SE mobile I wish they Introduce Walkman series in android

Companies just avoid doing a big and thick phone because ppl will complain about weight and they also do not want to give a hige battery.

Imagine flagship 2cm thick , with 1" camera and 7500mAh.
                              I would easily buy one.

Design is what keep OEMs to make new stuff.

I remember my decision that time... being newly wed, was considering to capture those best moments of honeymoon... Had two options either buy a digital camera or get a new mobile > I choose K800 that suffice the both purposes. Still have saved with me those memories..... I am big fan Sony Ericson since then even today i believe in Sony.... Thank you for making my lifespan wonderful...

Look at the depth= 22 mm (0.87 in), & imagine the camera hardware that could fit inside today, too thick?
Okay, so halve this to 11mm (0.43 in) you would still have better camera & smartphone capabilities than today's 8mm offerings.

I would much prefer a thicker phone with 18.5:9 ratio screen, than a taller remote control/ light saber.

It's camera quality is better than most of the Chinese brand phone till 2016. Capturing the running fan wings is enough to speak.
