Huawei is deploying a solution for a smarter ecosystem and I think their product is really good and innovative, but it's not the first time a better vision will not be converted into a commercial success....

I hope they will pursue their efforts and they will not hope other brands will follow them and they will develop their iots network by themselves.

If they can have a sufficient number of users globally then they can become a key player....

That's a little bit easy way to conceive things but why not?

Yes, coz it can run apk. It will be easier for developers to enter Chinese market and also lead to lower store commission too.

Anonymous, 07 Jun 2021For bigotry people like you, please read this https://en... moreBigotory? What a laugh! Do I have any reason to believe this specofic quote from Wikipedia, which cites the infamous half-assed article from Ars, when I have already have a clear idea what this OS does after reading dozens of Chinese news article reporting the development status of the Harmony OS in real time and looking through a bunch of snippets of codes on OH's repository on Gitee? I explained what it really is and does while addressing most of people's concern that this could be just another fork of Android in my previous comment. I'll say it again, go look into the codes yourself.

Harmony OS is based on android open source project. So it isn't even a brand new OS, just a fork of android.

There is a place for a 3rd OS during this time and I'm hoping that it won't be from America as variety and choice gives consumers plenty of power. Whether Huawei successed or not doesn't really matter to me.

It is Android. No more a different IS than FireOS. While having to include every piece of spyware demanded by the communist party. It may be a solution inside China. But my gut feeling after years of living there is that few in China will trust it.

Neither. It will stay the OS of Huawei. They will be successful with it, but it will be never in other companies devices.

Richy Logitech, 06 Jun 2021I am supporting Huawei, they don't need to bother too ... moreSamsung to HarmonyOS? If the phones are for China market then yes. But outside China, I don't think they are dumb enough to do that. But if they did, seems like they are just jealous of Huawei devices marketshare decline.

                              👍

Ars Technica exposed HarmonyOS as just another Android skin not dissimilar to MIUI or Color"OS". They found that HOS has an Android 10 foundation but with supposedly "better optimizations". They even tried sideloading apps just as you would on any other Android phone, and there were no issues!

More to the point, the biggest "make or break" factor for HarmonyOS will be with the GAMES, specifically those dependent on the "Sign In With Google" functionality; there's no use buying a more powerful and better-performing Huawei phone if all the stuff you collected and/or bought in your favourite game will NOT carry over in the AppGallery version now, is there?

When Huawei lost the Google Services, their market share dropped a lot even though it is still an android device. By changing to HarmonyOS, they think people will have enough reason to switch back? Even the Huawei Android version cannot be saved by China's billion population. Even though you can still side load apps on a device that does not have google services, not all are tech savvy or hassle themselves doing that. Xiaomi overtook Huawei because they still have Google Services. If other brands switch to HarmonyOS immediately, they will be dragging their marketshare down along with Huawei.

                                      And I quote:
"The version of HarmonyOS for IoT devices is developed as an open source project under the name OpenHarmony, and is based on Huawei's LiteOS microkernel. The version of HarmonyOS for smartphones and tablets was shown to be a fork of the Android 10 source code and Huawei's existing EMUI software.[1][2] In June 2021, a Huawei spokesperson stated that HarmonyOS did utilize a Linux kernel instead of LiteOS on hardware with larger amounts of memory, and that the project leveraged "third-party open-source resources"

The US government intervening in a free market will boomerang and whack them on the back of the head, maybe not just now, but sure as hell...it's will be within the next 2 to 3 years.

Huawei is playing the long game.
