So really, no Android 12 OS update for the 7 series? That's a bummer considering the OnePlus OS update history. But at least it's not the end of the world since there are an active custom ROM communities for OnePlus smartphones.

Most people I know use android phones that are running Android 9 or older. Even have people on Marshmallow and Nougat still happily using their phones with no plans to upgrade. My own OnePlus 7T is still on Android 10 even though I have Android 11 update, simply because I don't really feel the update is adding anything useful to my user experience and making it worse in some ways (like the new UI design which I am not a fan of). Android version and software support is one of the least concerns of the average user when using their phone. Majority of the people don't even have a clue which version of Android their phone is running...

They don't really care about the hardware or software. They buy new phone after they are not happy with it's performance or when they break it or lose it. I have only one friend that really cares about updates and software. Other 90% people around me don't know what Android version is installed on their devices. Talking about people 35-40 years old. Maybe younger generation cares about it much more, but that's maybe 25-30% of users. The rest doesn't really care and they are willing to use their phone 5 years or even longer.

That phone never received a major update and only occasionally gets security updates. Even then, I couldn't even install them since the memory is always full (8GB of internal storage is pretty bad). But that phone, even today, was still able to download most apps on the Google Play Store (After I cleaned and moved it's files to my new phone, of course), since Android 6.0 is still supported by the majority of Android apps.

MOST people don't care about updates and most Android users don't stop using their phones because they are not getting updates..
That's a very fallacious and stupid statement and shows that you are disconnected with what is going on in the real world..

"Phone stops working if you don't update" that's actually an ios feature, Android users don't have such issues

Look at Apple's iPhone X, tons of people are still using it and it still runs quite fast and was released the same year as the Samsung note 8 and OnePlus 5, both of which are horrendously outdated.
Heck, I know people using iPhone 7s too lol.
Btw, I'm not an apple fanboy, I'm flashing a custom rom based on android 11 on a phone that lost support after android 9.
