OnePlus extends software support for its smartphones

OnePlus 8 and newer flagships will get three Anrdoid OS updates and four years of security updates.

[deleted post]That's the fact. Apple gives 5 OS updates but almost all the new features in every update can be found in android version few years back. And as a both OS user, it makes me annoyed a lot that even simple features that easier my daily work and use exist in android a long time ago but still did not exist in iOS even after my 5 years update. This such thing that makes me sometimes thinking my android feels more modern and a miles ahead than my iphone even it has fewer OS updates. 5 OS updates doesn't make iphone have better functionality than android. In fact, apple makes it worse. Remember that “apple intentionally draining battery in every update”scandal? So the only thing that actually important to update in android more than the OS is the security patches

      I have the N10 5G phone and it is lousy. Always self restart for no reason, could be texting or watching video or IG, etc.

      What good is software support extension when the OS is so buggy??!!

        Wow. That means the oneplus 6 has better maintenance than 7 :D

          OnePlus can't provide 4 years of security updates on their phones, because the updates for the proprietary drivers for the Qualcomm chipsets have to come from Qualcomm and Qualcomm does not support chipsets beyond 3 years.

          Any other updates that don't involve the chipset would come through Google Play's ability to update system components anyway (enabled by Project Treble).

          But many of the most important security bugs are in the chipset drivers.

          So OnePlus is completely engaging in security theater and making false claims. Samsung recently did the same thing, so I guess OnePlus wanted to follow suit. This is total lying when they claim they can do this (very typical for OnePlus--always hype over substance).

          Don't fool yourself. If you have an Android phone that is more than three years old. It is not secure and cannot get security updates, no matter what the manufacturers claim.

              So the 7 and 7 pro will also get to Android 12, thus effectively getting 3 updates.

                        5g not available in oneplus 8 since 1.5 years..pathetic. they are selling oneplus as 5g phones and i couldn't find a 5g settings in my phone..be it network or any other settings..

                            Better bring Oxygen OS to others than Color OS.

                            I know Color OS is getting better, but simplicity and beauty Oxygen OS is stock with 'next level' feature.

                                  For 500+ dollar phones 3 years of major android updates and 4 years of security updates needs to be the new standard.

                                  I am not buying expensive phone with worse update support than that.

                                    It's a good thing to happen. For us, tech people, we are happy cause we get updates. But for general consumers, they won't care about updates, but hey, you get the option to update it or not. Good one, Oneplus. Hope other Chinese brands follow this
