An0n, 17 Feb 2022True, with that kind of software support, I will never reco... moreI couldn't disagree any harder on that. Xiaomi's hardware is almost always best value for the price period. But as far as updates go... Only Apple and Google are reliable for getting your update in a timely manner. Samsung is much better than previous years now, but there's still a wait. Source: I got Android 12 on my Pixel 4a and 5a in October. I got iOS 15.3.1 on my iPad Mini this week. Samsung is not releasing to all of there devices on day 1 or day 2. But, they probably could if they stopped customizing Android so hard.

Anonymous, 17 Feb 2022If they don't want to be associated with "cheap&q... moreXiaomi was actually one of the better manufacturers I've owned for updates as long as you don't mind MIUI. Every Xiaomi phone I owned got minimum 2 major Android version updates. In addition to all the pointless MIUI updates. Personally I hate MIUI, but I was never worried about will they / won't they. IMO the biggest scam in the book of new phones though, is releasing a phone with the old year old version of Android. Then giving the current version as one of the major updates.

Anonymous, 17 Feb 2022If they don't want to be associated with "cheap&q... moreIn time, they'd fix their support and update consistency. Samsung raised its prices before fixing its shoddy update, support, and UI.
If Xiaomi plays their card right, they could engineer a fascinating brand refresh. Kinda like Huawei and Honor. Honor for budget. Huawei for premium. Similarly, it'll be Redmi for budget. Poco for bang-for-buck. Xiaomi for premium.
That's the easy part. The hard part is differentiating the brands. Xiaomi rose to stardom on the premise of discarding "unnecessary" features to keep prices low. So stuff like their 200W which is one of the few areas where they lead the industry will not be as much of a draw as it should be, because their $300 phones already have faster charging than the latest $1300 iPhone PM. Cue "unnecessary".
They undercut the competition so badly (or well, depending on perspective) that they annihilated all possibilities of succeeding in the premium segment.
I think Xiaomi would try and fail to make headway in the premium smartphone space. It'll force them to stay content with the budget segment. Then motivate them to continue their current pivot with products like laptops, scooters, and even cars to drive growth.
This is a classic business case for why affordable brands always run out of steam. When you've captured all the price-conscious buyers out there, you realize you can't grow because your existing users would balk at price increases. While buyers with more disposable income refuse to associate with your brand. That's Xiaomi's present predicament.

solided, 17 Feb 2022Xiaomi took more risks before. Like Mi 9 SE and Mi 9T Pro. ... moreI had a Mi 9 SE. I didn't find anything risky about it. The only things I didn't like about it were MIUI and the crappy UD fingerprint sensor.

Anonymous, 17 Feb 2022For everyone asking that it's literally the same as th... moreI agree with most of what you're saying, but I despise MIUI so much I wouldn't pay over $400 for any phone with MIUI. MIUI is Xiaomi's fault, but Xiaomi makes great hardware so $400 for these phones doesn't really make sense.
I bought 8 Xiaomi phones between mid 2018 and early 2020 when the prices were still low. I never had any complaints about the hardware, but MIUI is just not my jam. I bought 1 Realme phone in 2021 and after that I'm convinced that I'll only buy Pixel from here on. Trash ROMs ruin perfectly good phones. There's no guarantee of custom ROMs for any phone nor any guarantee of how well the custom ROM will perform. Getting a good software experience out of the box is more important than ever now with all of these Mediatek chips on the market lately.
Oh and to anyone who wants to say you get what you pay for... I can clearly afford an expensive phone if I bought 10 phones in 2 years (also bought Pixel 3a and 4a). The reason I don't buy Samsung or OnePlus is because OneUI is also bad and Samsung is expensive. OxygenOS has already been ColorOS-ified and will only get worse.

For everyone asking that it's literally the same as the Poco f3, you need to consider some things before commenting. SD 888 and above are generally hot phones so putting an option for 870 for 12x is actually a brilliant if not smart move. Plenty of reviews on 12x rave about it's phone capabilities being on par with the 8 gen 1 and 888. Another consideration is the size and form factorm. Compare the compact phones on the market right now and the 13 and 13 pro are the only ones best of it class. The 12x is close in terms of size 6.28 inches and speed. Other Android device at this size have shitty battery *cough* s22. I got the 12x with Chinese ROM and have been fairly impressed with h it

Aan2007, 17 Feb 2022yeah, insane pricing there Poco F3 cost 280EUR, no way anyo... moreit's basically normal pricing for Xiaomi though. Their Xiaomi branded phones never offer the highest price to performance ratio. The Redmi k50 is coming within the next few weeks though which will probably be the Poco F4 internationally. That will more than likely be priced the same as the k40 which was the poco F3 in internaional markets so the pricing should be competitive on that model. The k50 will also have the snapdragon 870 but probably will come with an Omnivision OV64B main camera sensor replacing the imx582 on the Poco f3
