      Agree

Devon, 10 Oct 2022I think there are some interesting useful Pixel 7 innovatio... more And 25% brighter displays for both phone models this year.

Next are Sony and Pixels phones

SShock, 10 Oct 2022Or just maybe, no one really cares about Oppo and whatever ... moreLumias died because Windows Phone died. Devs froze them out just like with Stadia. If you don't get software, you don't get users.

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2022Doesn't matter to me, I'm team pixel all the way.... moreSame for me. I was on OnePlus 3, 6T, 7T. OnePlus has really destroyed that brand. I am on Pixel 5a I received as a promotion. A very solid midranger! I may go for the P7Pro. And I just feel a little better getting a phone that is designed and engineered in the US.

AnonD-1066415, 10 Oct 2022But, does anybody really innovate nowadays? I mean improvin... moreI'm agreeing with you here! I'd like to see a Pixel 6a sized rollable come to market. I'm surprised there are no rollable phones on the market yet in general.

imparanoic, 10 Oct 2022ironic that pixel ui used to be almost perfect but the pixe... moreI was a bit concerned about this for the Pixel 6a, but I think the reality is that there is a vocal minority here. My 6a personally has had an annoying issue with the fingerprint sensor that was fixed rather quickly. I haven't had any other bugs at all. I have occasionally ran into other bugs or more specifically annoyances on other devices. I would say MIUI itself is a whole new category of annoyance. My iPad Mini 6 can't keep a terminal app open in the background for longer than 15 seconds. In addition, Apple doesn't find it worthwhile to bring the ultra limited multitasking of Stage Manager to the less than a year old $500 tablet. The degree of bloat on Samsung phones is an annoyance that I'm unwilling to deal with. There's always pros and cons with any device, but the Pixel phones I have owned have been the most pleasant software experiences I have had with exception of the fingerprint sensor issue I dealt with on the 6a for about 6 days.

"Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are incremental upgrades"
The same could be said of every single 2022 releases so far.

Except maybe for a few china-only rarities and the Zenfone 9.
This is just how this industry works now. Less and less innovative & aggressively bland.

However, this Google release is one of the cleanests of the year, with an iconic, unique design and probably still the best cameras of any smartphone.
All that for less than 700 bucks.

But hey haters gonna hate, just like whoever wrote this poor paper.

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2022Team Pixel since day one here, but the hate on apple is get... moreApple hardware is fine / good IMO. It's just the locked down nature of iOS that I can't mess with. MacOS is totally fine. ChromeOS is my favorite desktop OS, but all in all I think MacOS, Linux, Windows are all good in their own ways.

Many people seem to forget that Android smartphones in previous years really pushed the envelop in terms of new features, while Apple didnt.

Its noticable how in the last 2-3years for example, all android flagships are literally the same in terms of features, which is disappointing.

Hell Pixel 7 doesnt even have a 120hz display or Pixel A series having only 60hz display....

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2022pixel will be out of production few years later just like stadiaYou do realize they're on 7 now right? It's already been a few years twice.

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2022I mean Apple didn't innovate for ages in my opinion. ... moreGSM Arena is slowly becoming The Verge so anything Apple does is great. They don't care that you can unblur pictures taken back in the early smartphone days on a Pixel 7.

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2022It depends what could be called lack of innovation. But... moreMan software innovation does not envy anyone. Most people switch their phones every 2 - 3 years and the fact phone have 5 or even 10 years of OS updates doesnt makes anyone feels better if after 2-3 years he or she sells its phone because even if it have new OS every year for next 5-10 years it cant run on old hardware new software i mean apps which improved but hardware not.
Phone is no PC to swap old things for new.
You must buy whole new device.

"Other new features like Photo Unblur and a cinematic recording mode don’t really excite the average smartphone user." I'll admit, I'm not the average smartphone user, but IMO photo unblur seems like a game changer. Imagine all of the pictures taken on phones in the early 2010s that can use a touch up. I'm really excited to get my hands on this feature and hopefully it will come to the Pixel 6a.

toaa, 10 Oct 2022true. even my galaxy note 9 with android 10 is still good e... moreThat is one of the thing people forget about android. Androids don't require OEM / Android update to access the system apps. Eg) my Android 9 phone which stopped receiving updates a couple of years ago has the same phone/ contact, messages, google play services, play store etc as my pixel. Usability wise, both can be pretty much identical despite one of them running 9 and another 13. So unless there is a super major security flow, it is fine.

ios on the other hand pushes system app updates only via ios updates, so for them, it is kind of mandatory to have them.

I'm not saying one is better than another, but merits and demerits of both ios and androids are exaggerated a lot. Both of them aren't perfect.

@GSM arena is it possible you could write the same article for Apple and Samsung because their phones lack the same? Unless you think that dynamic island is the second coming. or having better battery life in the Samsung Z flip is mind-blowing. In fact, the iPhone 13 pro cameras have been compared to the iPhone pro 14 all over YouTube and some reviewers have stated it's hard to tell the difference. Is it possible that this site could actually be about tech journalism for once? New flash no phone this year is doing anything impressive they are all just updates.

i have a feeling the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are more about fixing this issues of the Pixel 6. i'm sure they learned a lot.
