xPandamon, 12 Sep 2024Apple is tied with Samsung, not the other way around. Not e... morewhat sort of lazy justification is that? weird. When let's say, England and Germany have a Draw in a football match, it doesn't matter what side hit the goal first, they both drew.
My point is that Samsung is stuck at 45 W, for long enough that Apple caught up. If you think it's pathetic that it took Apple this long to "catch up" I think it's more pathetic that Samsung aren't doing anything to get ahead. Samsung isn't the market leader for premium phones, Apple is. Apple has the leverage to be lazy and still be considered the boss. Samsung is number 2 and they're already acting lazy and smug.
Rabbit vs Turtle thing in a way.

My iPad pro charges much faster with a 45W charger but also gets a lot warmer than when I plug it to my old 10W Samsung charger. I'd rather use the 10W when I've got time. The hotter it gets and the faster the battery will detoriorate

Moto G62 is 18W, charger in the box was 20W.
Person needs to know before buying the phone, which speed it can handle.
My old ipad. I had to buy years ago new lightning cable.
Got one from Anker , it is certified by Apple.
Price was 1/3 of the original.
Something else. OEMs that put usb 3.1 / 3.2 on phones need to give cables compatible. They give ones with usb2.0 protocol.

Get any phone with 80, 100 or 120 and compare them using native charging and 15/20W.
I have tested Motorola. 68W vs 20W
Difference is pretty obvious.
With 68W, it is like your playing demanding game.
Much cooler with 20W.

Anonymous, 12 Sep 2024Should be forbidden to advertise charging speed the device ... moreThat. But also what I said. Users can't know what charger exactly they need and not including a charger just so you force user to buy YOUR charger separately specifically to reach your advertised speeds is stupid. Not to mention anything but ecological when you need double the packaging, larger shipping volume and not to mention it's ripping off the users.
Neither should be allowed. I don't mind Chinese brand bragging about 65W when they also include the charger that actually reaches those speeds. Samsung, not only they don't include the charger, their 45W was NEVER 45W on a 65W charger that actually specifically supports their protocol (because I got the SuperSpeed charge animation when plugged).
Apple is somewhere in the middle. They don't include the charger, but their speeds were always kinda slow so almost any charger was reaching them anyway.

Like saying phone has 30W but its peak is 22W.
Same to phones that claim 250 but do not even pass 200 , not even for a second.
Advertising 30 if it reaches 20 is wrong.
Advertising 80 if it reaches 65 is wrong.
Advertising 120 if it reaches 90 is wrong

xPandamon, 12 Sep 2024Apple is tied with Samsung, not the other way around. Not e... moreI think Apple is not trying to catch up with anybody. They are just doing Apple things.
Also, they have 20-25W maximum charging speeds since iPhone 11 Pro Max. Just about in the same time Samsung had 25W with Note 10, if I am not mistaken.
I don't think Apple improved too much the overall charging time since then. Is basically around 90 minutes for full charge.
I don't think it will be lower than 70-80 minutes in iPhone 16 series.

They increased the power consumption, not the speed. 45 Watt is for what if it still takes 2 hours to fill the phone? I don't give a s#it about "battery health" nonsense, my android charges with 67 watt and it's been almost 3 years no issues.
