A reskinned Android 10 without any access to the already established APIs from an OEM that couldn't sell their replacement globally for almost two years during which time the general, non-Chinese public has moved on to fully capable alternatives? No, it won't gain any traction outside of their homeland. Not to mention the fact that regular users expect to access a few services on their phone such as YouTube or Google Maps. Without them, the interest into these devices will plummet. Expecting people to sideload APKs is very foolish, especially if it's only to use a more limited version of the same OS and without any unique hardware. At least in China, there was nothing of the sort to begin with, so this limitation does not exist.

huawei has been and still is under heavy load, they can not adress all the issues and deliver everything at once as a refined and polished product. imho the fact they are open towards devs will help to shape harmony os, but it will require efforts from both sides - third parties and huawei.

Im not sure why people argue if its an Android fork or not. Who the hell cares? Are they breaking law if they use an AOSP as a base for their "OS"? As long as it can be used freely without the US intervention, then it doesn't matter. What matters is we have another option. If you dont like it, then DONT buy it.
Huawei makes amazing hardware, and brings new tech to more people faster than some other companies - that is something that cant be argued. These sanctions, in my opinion, is a fearmongering technique - you cant beat them, sanction them. Uncle Sam has been doing this strategy for so long. If the US regulators think these companies are violating laws then why not file cases and let the court decide, then fine them and close them for good.
The choice whether to buy a product should be given to the consumers - if people are afraid of China spying, then it should be their choice to avoid it - unless they think consumers are stupid.
My only concern with Harmony lifting off is the apps - like it or not Youtube dominates the video streaming platform, they should have created their own (or promoted Iqiyi or Youku or Tencent video even more, in multiple languages). They should promote other G apps alternative like Here WeGo and BlueMail. They should also try to find a way to synchronize contacts and calendars in between OS so it will be seamless to migrate to Harmony or use another device with android, or iOS. These were my issues when I was using the Mate40 Pro, and because of it my experience with the device became underwhelming.

Though the concept looks amazing, I am not onboard due its locked bootloader & further bloatware/spyware in main OS. Dont want CCP in control now where if i cant type Tianmen Massacre & Winne the pooh.
I would any day buy an Android & install custom ROM then deal with spyware shits from US/China.

Wish that many more chinese manufacturers start using Harmony OS, and U know what, android will be a thing of past, chinese phones have huge market, we can say, the biggest user of Android are chinese brands.

At this stage its a beta software. Id rather use emui for a while. Besides this software is more focused towards Chinese users.

It's just a matter of accumulating more native apps now. The native app of Harmony OS is based on distributed computing architecture that runs on a system consisting of multiple devices, which is the whole point of Harmony OS.
