Week 49 in review: Xiaomi Redmi 5 and 5 Plus, and Huawei Nova 2s announced

December is not typically a month that sees plenty of new smartphone announcements, but this week brought plenty of debuts.

Xiaomi a couple of 18:9 entry level smartphones - the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus, which bring impressive hardware for their respective price points. Huawei had the Nova 2s mid-ranger to show, while LG brought an even more premium version of its V30 flagship, dubbed Signature Edition.

Qualcomm held an event of its own, detailing the chipset that will likely power the H1 2018 flagship - Snapdragon 845.

Meanwhile, a leak gave us a look at the upcoming Sony bezelless flagship. The Japanese company is the only major player yet to jump on the tall screen bandwagon, but it can't be long now.
